Hi any advice would be appreciated.

I've got a Lunar Zenith 6 and have kept my Bradcott Active awning from my old van, a Bailey Auvergne.  I've measured up the van around the awning rail and down to the ground both sides and come up with about about 970.  My owners details passed on by the dealer say my van is a 2008 registered, but there is other stuff referring to 2009 models, like range description etc in the pack I recieved.  The van was sold by the dealer in 2009 from new to the first owner.

The problem I'm considering is that when you search the 2008 van on one of these sites where you put the make and model in to get the awning size, it comes out at 1005, 35 cm bigger than my measurements.

I've measured it three times now, and have used string, measuring the short fall in the awning when on the van and added to the awning measurement, and run a tape measure around x-z to get a.  Measurements every time 960-975.

When you search for the 2009 van however, the recomended awning size comes out at 970, so either I cant measure for toffee, or they were selling the 2009 Zenith model to the dealers in 2008.

One things for sure though, I dont want to pay £155 twice, this is the price quoted by the helpfull chap at Kingswood Canvas in Bristol to extend the awning, because I've cocked up on the sizing.

So, any advise on this and on getting awnings extended generally would be great.

Thanks

Tony B

So even though the van was sold to the dealer in is it possible that it was the 2009 shape.  I'ts got the later decals etc, so I am guessing this is what the situation is.

I'm sure someone else can confirm for definate but I think the new models come out around Sept each year so it's quite possible you have a 2009 model that was bought/ordered in late 2008.

Once you've estab;ished the right size for your van would it be easier to sell your Bradcot & buy another 2nd hand one that's the righ size?  At least doing that you should just about break even rather than have forked out £155 to get it altered?

Our handbook size gives 915 we measure at 875, so I'd go with your measuring to be honest as we've not yet had a 'van that matches the size given for some reason, do they shrink in the rain!?

I'm not sure but £155 for a standard alteration sounds a bit expensive. It might be worth getting a few quotes before going ahead. Most repairers do a collect and deliver service for awnings.

Our dealer told us we needed a 920cms, Elddis told us we needed a 920cms.  I contacted Jeff at Bowen Awnings(I found him during an internet search)

http://www.bowenawnings.co.uk/

He offers to check back in his records for any awning size.  He told me ours was 895cms & when we did the string measurement we came up with exactly the same measurement.

Mind you, we haven't bothered with a full awning yet as we're happy with a porch awning.

Hi

Caravan models are always launched in the year prior to the model-year.  So a 2009 van probably went on sale in the Autumn of 2008.  Nowadays, the manufacturers launch the models as early as June of the year 'before'!

An awning dealer told us that awning measurements can vary - even between vans of exactly the same model and year! and that they don't always match the specs given in the literature.  He advised us that the only way to be sure is to measure the van itself.

Hope that helps.

Thanks all, measured again, and looked at lots of pics on the net, as sure as I can be that it was a 2009 model, just purchased by the dealer in 2008,, and certain that it measure 970-975.

Looked at replacing the awning, and at £155 works out cheaper that exchanging.  We've got the quick release alloy bars on this awning, so anoher reason not to change.

I got another quote, which came back at £160 plus £15 each way p&p.

Thanks for advise all.

Cheers.
