this caravan hasn't been connected up to water in couple of years. We connected up a new pump yesterday & ran some water... got a lot of `flakey bits' (sort of beige colour) and a little dark brown algae () out after runnning off a few basinfulls.
Today I want to get the water pipes all clean - I already have Milton but really not sure what's the best way to go about this - ie
do I stick with 6 caps to 5 litres ? - if not what concentration would you reccommend ? Btw there's much less flaky bits coming out now & no more dark brown gloopy algae - yet ...
should I completely fill an aquaroll withthe milton solution (have a 40 lite & a smaller one too) and run the whole lot through ? (or will less do ?)
do I need to fill the hot water tank with a Milton solution separately, or just run off hot water ?
???? sorry to be so clueless ! This is complicated compared to our last van - she had no hot water.
Crikey never knew that I don't actually know what the hot water tank is made of but I would have assumed it would be plastic tbh... had better check !
I hadn't intended actually leaving the Milton solution in the tank long term - had thought after a wee soak (was hoping for advise as to how long) to rinse it all through then refill with plain water.... Can you tell me if that would be ok to do if the H/W tank does prove to be alloy ?
Darn. I live a fair way from the nearest shops & wanted to get this done today. Looks like I'll have to wait till I can get some puriclean / Elsan / both in then
I thought Elsan was for the cacker ? I guess the Elsil is for hot water tanks though...
Erm, have looked at the H/W tank, which is under one of the seats (it's a Carver & right enough says `DO NOT USE CHEMICAL STERILISING AGENTS') & it seems to have no way of `opening it' to pour anything in - so what do I do to clean it ???? I'm totally bamboozled
I always use Milton fill your aquaroll with Milton and water, run through the taps till aquarolls empty leave overnight then run a full aquaroll of fresh water through my vans 22 year old and water tanks still going strong.
Im with craig26. always used miltons by this method, never had a problem. Fill the aqua roll back up with water and miltons after running through lines on caravan and thats nice and sterile by the morning too
I think if i remember rightly we use 1 cap to every 5 litres of water.
Just make sure you run plenty of clear water through all taps after or theres that little hint of miltons in your first on site cuppa lol
------------- I,d live life in the fast lane but, i,m married to a speed bump.
Am so glad you asked this as it's my job for the weekend and I'd not got any sort of grasp on the logistics of it at all. I have a tub of Puriclean and was assuming I stuck that in the aquaroll at the recommended dilution then turned all the taps on the shower, the sink and the bathroom sink until the aquaroll was empty, leave it overnight then go back and do the same with fresh water. I'd not really thought about what I was supposed to do about the hot water tank ... I don't actually have to heat it up, do I?
You fill the water heater by running the hot tap. Don't turn the heater on though. Personally I would avoid doing much with the hot water other than flushing with clean water. You don't know what you might uncover in there. Heating the water should get rid of most gunge from the heater anyway, followed with a good flush with fresh water. Milton should be fine in the cold water though I prefer puriclean.
