Hi all, just driving solo, about 2.30pm on the Glasgow to Edinburgh A8 70 MPH road, and i was overtaking this Black VW camper type van on the inside lane(around the Bellshill turn off) the van was going about 60 MPH, with a queue of cars behind it, as i was passing, i looked over to van, and i was shocked to see the lady driver, head down reading a map, folded into the stearing wheel, she was totaly oblivious to everything on the road around her, Why do people do this sort of thing, They seam to be void of all common sense, just to save them stopping and save a few minutes of journey time, i hope the woman driver reads this forum, and realises how dangerous and stupid she has been.( it could have been an unmarked police car that passed her,she would have been stopped then, and would have had a fine and points), It all to easy to make some silly mistakes while driving that could possibly cause accidents, that type of idiotic behaviour is more likley to put some one in an early grave, if not them aswell.

I observed a fellow behind me earlier (he was towing a van!) and clearly using a phone while map reading too! His passenger was gawping all around doing nothing in particular; why didn't they have the map and throw the phone out the window...?
Probably another common cause of accidents, if you veer off into another lane and then panic to stop yourself at speed your three quarters of the way to snaking the van.
These people shouldn't be allowed on the road, they're endangering themselves and everyone else around them.
A woman pasted me eating crisps and it looked as though she was steering with her knees and, just a little of topic, why do people on the m8 glasgow to edinburgh drive in the fast lane when there is no need to do so.
Hi, Paul, A lot of Idiots out there, Crush phone and car with driver in it, give van to someone, who is thinking of joining the responsible caravan fraternity, was going to honk horn, to let her know she had been seen, but though better of it, as that may have gave her a fright and caused an accident. though she did deserve a good fright.

Hi jeff ,have no idea, you could tie a 6insh rope to car in front and take foot of pedal, I think they should build cars that, when you sit in drivers seat,(Not getting at all the woman drivers this covers all the idiots), it slaps on lippy, makeup, combs hair, injects you with tea/coffee,feeds you toast, implants maps into your head and phone into your ear,Then mabe there would be no need to do all the stupid thing that some drivers do? having said that im sure that there are still some that could find dafter things to do while driving.

From what I've seen over recent weeks, I'm ashamed to observe that that will be a fairly small and exclusive club then John.
Hi Paul, having seen some of the thing that sadly a lot of caravaners do, I could very well beleve it. gives weight to Clarkstons view, and every caravaner tared with same brush.

Agree there, have seen vans driffting in the lane, mabe driver up early for a quick start to a trip, driving for more than two hours without brake, and starting to get tired, must be at a certain place for a particular time turning caravaning into a rat race to get as much time on site as possible, for me caravaning is a leisurely activity,to visit new places, see new people, and sites, and if worst comes and you dont make the site,or the over night bay,you will not be stuck for a bed, i always plan 2hours for every hundred miles moter ways and 2and1/2 to 3 hours on other roads.

Why not spend a bit more time watching the road and a bit less time nosing through other peoples window playing amateur police officers.
Let he who is without blame cast the first stone.
Agreed. I very rarely see these things. I occasionally see someone on the phone. I don't do it myself, but I have to say that a lot of caravanners do much worse things.
80 mph, car too small for caravan ( I see this one a lot), badly loaded and wagging all over the place, car so full you can't see through the windows, bikes covering the lights (not relevant to caravans, but obviously on holiday, maybe tent campers). Just as likely - if not more - to kill someone.
I find you only have time to look inside another car is when you're in a queue.
overtook a man towing a caravan on the A55 north wales drinking a cup of tea from a china cup????? it takes all sorts to make a mad mix of nutters, and yes you can look if your not driving just like the police do.
