Tomorrow we are off towards Clovelly for the bank hols.
On our last trip, on packing up the awning, we found a puncture on our twin Axle (ran over glass). Had spare wheel so that was no probs but had to borrow Jack, brace and air compressor from a friendly neighbour.
So this time I am trying to get prepared. Have now got my own jack, brace and compressor (which i had in the wife's car) but it has led me to think if something goes wrong could I fix it.
So my question is what essential item(s) do you carry??

I always take my big socket set, trolley jack, screw driver set,air compressor, a decent whell brace not the crapy one supplied with the car, and of course as said before my AA card.

Life is a Roller coaster and we will be on loads this year...
A good torque wrench is better than a wheel brace especially when replacing the wheel as it is almost impossible to guess the correct torque and it is important especially on alloy wheels. A simple multimeter is handy for diagnostics on electrical faults. A few pieces of wood to steady the jack on soft ground (can also be used for levelling). Spare bulbs and a couple of warning triangles have got me out of the wet and warm a couple of times in the past.

If you have a modern `van , correct wheelbrace , chassis jack and a plate to put it on . As far as tools go , a boxed set with spanners/sockets/screwdriver bits and normal and point pliers should cope with everything mechanical . I also carry a multimeter and tyre inflator . This combination takes up very little room and doesn`t weigh a lot . The AA card is lot`s lighter though and doesn`t dirty your hands or clothes .
Enough stuff to carry already, no room (or weight allowance) for a trolley jack. In the event something happens I will just call the AA - thats what I pay them so much for.
We carry a small toolkit ,mini compressor ,warning triangle ,jack ,tenacious tape ,duct tape, a spare pole ,clipits ,seam sealer ,patches ,spare guyropes ,bulbs and fuses (inside and out ) wd40 ,probably other bits I cant remember .We keep it all in a largish soap bag (except the pole ,compressor and toolkit ,they hide under the floor in the car boot :)
