Hi, we have european breakdown cover with the aa, they will pay to bring the car back to the uk, but not sure about a caravan. What do you all do about breakdown cover and your caravans???
Red Pennant with the Caravan Club is the best by far for personnel and breakdown cover .
It may be expensive but unlike cheaper policy's they will repatriate your caravan or car if necessary and will supply a replacement car to continue you holiday and accomodation if required
Hi, Agree with Neil & Lena, Red Pennant really do deliver. When we were in Portugal in March, a couple left the site to make their way back home and their motorhome broke down just outside the site. The site were excellent and contacted Red Pennant for them and arranged for them to stay in a chalet on site, they did give them the option to take a hotel but they preferred to stay where they were, an amount of money for food per day, cannot remember how much, but more than enough and a hire car. Because the motorhome was quite old, the parts had to be made and sent to the garage where it was going to be fixed. This was going to take at least 3 weeks if not more. This was all down to Red Pennant, admittedly they would have to pay for parts because of the age of vehicle, but all the stress was taken away from them and they were getting an extended holiday all paid for.
Not sure what the final outcome was as we left before it was sorted.
We wouldnt go abroad without Red Pennant. In 07 when after 5 days they couldnt guarentee out car would be ready, we were flown home. All car hire, food bills, long as we had a reciept was paid back. And just glad we didnt have to pay for the car bill too, talk about expensive
If your car breaks down towing caravan, most(but not all)breakdown insurances will recover car & caravan to garage & if it can't be fixed promptly will repatriate car & caravan.
If your caravan is impacted, say sideways, you could well have situation where caravan is untowable but car is undamaged. Your car breakdown insurance then won't do anything with the caravan. I suggest you contact your caravan insurance & ask them about this scenario. It may not even be worth recovering 'van back to UK & it could possibly be written off locally.
If your car breaks down or is accident damaged & is recovered back to UK while your 'van is parked on site then I think you would have to make your own arrangements to collect 'van.
