Hi everyone, Have just returned from 3 day trip. This being only the 3rd as we are new to motorhoming. Bought initially auto sleeper, but found space to confined as we have fat old arthritic dog to consider. Now have Mowhawk, which is great, old, but spacey. BUT dog just cant get up stpe. Spent disastrous 3 days, half dragging her up ramp, claw marks and shivering dog as a result. She didnt eat for two days, just fell through door and sat where she had landed. Really spoiling what is supposed to be fun!! has anyone made deep steps or similar please. As I know a lot of you have dogs...help really needed..
The solutions easy get a caravan the step is not so high.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Try googling Motorbike ramps, they are long and gentil inclines of about 40cm wide that fold in half and are made of aluminum so are quite lightweight, also alot cheaper than the disability or specialist dog ones sold on the market, and have non slip moldings pressed into the metal to stop slip ups,

I bought this one for my old dog. I bought a ramp first but she was just the same, and had the same reaction. You could try glueing some old carpet to it first and see if that works, the one I got had slats at the side and only a little bit of non slip stuff in the middle. Could have been the combination of that and her eyesight. Could have been too much of an angle to walk up.
However the two step worked with my caravan and also for getting her into the car. You may need a three step with a MH. However, the downside is, you can't use it yourself as it won't stand the weight, you have to remove it and use your ordinary step for yourselves, then put it back for the dog -as I found out the hard way, it will fall to pieces with the weight of an adult on it!
Eventually I just had to give up going as she got older and older. She got that she couldn't do much, walk very far and neither of us enjoyed the holidays it became too hard. I just elected to stay home with her until she eventually ceased to be.
