I noticed that Wandahome or Caravanbuys (whatever they call themselves now) at South Cave have an offer on of a free awning and 3 year warranty with every used caravan over £3000. This seems like a really good offer, but i have read bad reports about them in the past.
Does anyone have any experience of them recently ??
DO NOT deal with this firm. I have personal experience. Go to Discovery in York - they know how to do business. Wandahomes after sales is also horrendous I hear. However the sales team are the people I have had a very bad experience with.
The only experience I have is a friendly salesman, that went through some figures, gave us plenty of time to look around, answered our questions, but then never got back to us with a PX price.
They usually have a good selection of caravans, some good, some not so. One of the things that always stands out is they never clean their PX's and just put them on display warts and all, I don't know if its a good thing or not.
The Awning and warranty seems a good deal.

Picked my new van up from them on Saturday, a 2008 Bailey Ranger 460/4.
They were the best on price and were offering a free motor mover. Thought it might be a cheap mover, but its a Power Touch complete with a 5yr Gaurantee!
Van was ready for collection on time, free spare wheel was included. Service from the staff was very good (even put my car window up for me when it started raining).
So far I'm very pleased with Wandahome and the caravan.
Forgot to mention, we were not hassled at all when viewing the vans. We were allowed to spend as long as we wanted inside the 'van alone without having a salesman there (unlike other dealers we visited).
Had emails replied to within a couple of hours and with follow up phone calls.
I heard some people were not happy with them, but then you normally only hear the negatives from people. People who are happy with a product or service don't go around telling people!
we wouldn't recommend them either, they were okish with the sale of the van but when it comes to aftersales when things go wrong they are rubbish, never do what they say they're gonna do so we went to Discover at York as we didn't want to deal with them again

I had heard hat they had improved, but i guess you never know until you have a problem and by then its too late !
I might try Discovery in York and see what they have on offer - it just seemed that the offer at Wandahome was a good one.
This will be our first caravan buy and i was thinking about buying privatly, but with a dealer you would expect a better / safer experience and you have some kind of come back if something goes wrong. Or at least that what we hope !!!!
I would not deal with this firm again, had problems with their aftersales. I was assured by the salesman that a problem with the van had been fixed before we bought it. A year and a service later we found this was not the case.
Granlands - just take the deal to Discover and theyll match it and then some. They are old fashioned type dealers and want your business. They hammered the competition when i got mynew van.
As for the rest speaking up for WH - I hope not - but watch the after sales suddenly change your mind.
Bought a motorhome from them 2 years ago , bits and bats of problems, which to be fair they sorted, but got the impression that once the deal was done - thats it, didn,t seem to know much about the product they were selling wouldn,t recommend them although they do seem to have sold a lot of caravans. Even e-mail the MD at the time and didn,t get a reply, which to me is bad .
------------- Keep smiling, its later than you think !
You guys seem to rate Discover at York, which really surprises me. The salesman there was offering me £7,000 as a trade in for my van which was £16,000 a year ago!!! Sorry, but you would never convince me that they are good to deal with or that 'they know how to do business'. Wandahome gave me £6000 for a 7 year old Abbey County last year as trade in against our current van. Going by that, you tell me who know how to do business!
that's because we sold our van private and then used the cash to buy our new van as it's common knowledge that you usually get more from a private sale than a trade-in. So far the experience we had from Discover was a far better experience than that at Wandahome. Obviously we've yet to use their aftersales service but fingers crossed it can't be any worse than the experience we had at Wandahome.

We bought our new caravan off wanderhome and got a cracking deal and have had good aftersales to date.
We even bought their happy pack that gives you 3 call outs per year for warranty work and also includes the caravan being serviced on our drive, this is great if like us you live miles away from showroom/service workshop, All for £250
Obviously selling privately is the way to go, but look ...
£6000 for 7 yr old van that cost £10,000 new (Wandahome Nottingley)
£7000 for 1 yr old van that cost £16,000 new (Barons, Discover, call-it-what-you-like)
Who in their right minds would ever deal again with a bunch of chancers who tried to pull that stroke? Discover are very close and convenient to me, but to be honest, would not buy as much as an awning peg from them now!
we had a similar experience with another dealer that we rang up to about a van they had that we thought we wanted, luckily the trade-in offer was horrendous so we didn't go for it. You have to think about their current stock situation, if we'd sold our van back to Wandahome when they were desperate for vans cause of the floods we'd have nearly got what but paid for it, but I bet if their stock was pretty high and they really didn't want another trade-in would a crap trade-in price deter people? That's what we think anyway and I know Barrons/Discover always seem to be overflowing with vans when we've been whereas recently Wandahome have had loads of space for more caravans, but again that's just my thoughts on the subject, I could be wrong but hey I don't sell em
