We had our van serviced last month and while we were away we noticed that there were black bits coming out of the flush tank. I'm sure there must be something I can put through the tank to clean it out. Any suggestions?

Typical, I was just going to post the same subject as we have the same issue. I had read somewhere that the black bits were caused by the pink liquid. Is this true? If so what do people recommend instead of pink or blue?
The black bits are fragments of black mould which has grown in your flush tank (black mould loves dark, wet places). One of the jobs of flush additive is to inhibit the growth of the mould, as it can gum up pipes and pumps. The additive doesn't "cause" the bits.
As for which additive to use, it's personal choice - the "perfume" or smell is often the deciding factor - but ensure it doesn't include formaldehyde, which is seriously nasty stuff. I recommend OneChem, which is British made (unlike the best known brand), highly concentrated (so you use less) comes in a measuring bottle (so it's easy to use), and it has a pleasant smell.
from many previous posts on this subject it would appear that its aqua chem pink that tends to develop these black bits. I never get them with elsan pink.

Hi, Not sure if the Aqua chem causes the black bits, it dose not seam to do much to discurage growth,I now use the Elsan pink and have not had any black bits for past 4 years.
