There was an RTA with a coach, tow car and caravan between Dorchester and Yeovil this morning too. Came on here to see if there was any further info - the local news just says the road is still shut. :-(
Hi, All first post, go easy on me!
passed this accident at 1.00 today, must have just happened, first police car had just drawn up, van and can was on hard shoulder, sideways on, van on its side, car jammed up against roof of caravan, thankfully, family seemed ok, Mum & dad and two kiddies stood on grass, they all looked deeply shaken,(who wouldnt)a lorry was also stopped on the hard shoulder, the M62 was extremely busy at that time, but when i headed back to lancashire at 4.30 the the motorway eastbound was practically solid all the way from halifax, to swinton, the road from ripponden into halifax was stationary traffic all the way, just glad i am not trying to get into yorkshire tonight.

Awful. Heard on the radio there was a caravan overturned on the M62. Made me go cold. Poor folks heading off for what should have been a lovely family weekend & this is how it ends for them Really hope they're all ok.
My heart goes out to them all, been there and worn the teashirt so to speak when we wrote off a new Honda back in 91, and severly damaged the towing hitch to our caravan when it came unhitched with the impact.
Its not always motorways where it happens either, ours was on a B class road going from Utoxeter to Stone in Staffordshire, when we were hit head on by an articulated lorry who had failed to see the weight restrictions on the road signs, and came flying over a railway bridge on a sharp bend in the road where there simply wasnt enough space for him to stay on his side of the road. the lorrys brakes were also found to be faulty when examined by the ministry of transport, which in turn rendered his insurance null and void. luckily we had legal insurance cover with our policy, and started a claim against him for damages and injuries sustained, but the beggar him then went and declaired himself bankrupt, and left our insurance company to foot the bill for a new car for us and all the legal expenses involved, and the worst part was that despite our injuries we then could not claim a penny for them in compensation, even though both my hubby and I both have some nasty scars to show for it all today.
Its not just the physical injuries that matter in these serious accidents, its the long term emotional damage it does caused by such a shock too, my next youngest daughter still to this day will not travel in the rear seat of a car behind the driver, it just brings back to many memories of the day she did that and the entire side of the car was sliced off by the wheel hub and step plate of the lorry's front cab.
I hope all those who have suffered a similar event today manage to get the right help and guidance to make a speedy recovery.
Julia
