Supposed to get away today for the rest of the week. All packed up and ready to go. Hitched up and.....no towing electrics. Absolutely dead. Hitched to a trailer and the same so definitely the car.
At parents in law (as caravan stored there) and although they don't tow they have a sorento with a towbar....so we thought we'll use that instead. Hitched up...and they've got faulty electrics as well (got brakes, lights on one side but not other).
So we're sat here b......d until tomorrow when I can get car somewhere for checking out. Hopefully Ill get it in and it'll be quick.
Aw thats awful - i feel for you! Hope you are able to get things sorted quickly tomorrow and be on your way! Forecast is good all week so hope you are able to get away tomorrow!
Check the auxiliary fuse in the tow car. If this has blown then you won't have any trailer electrics at all. Sometimes it can blow when inserting or removing the the trailer plug which sometimes can create a short especially if the plug is damp etc. Have a look at the car fuse diagram (if you have a handbook) and check the related fuse. Hope you get sorted.
Checked all fuses and can't see anything. We were picking up van from parents in law so we're in north warks wizard. Have checked everything I can think of (or look up on web) but no luck. I suspect something has blown e.g. Fuse or relay but beyond fuse box I can't seem to get at it. Bit deflated now so will be on the phone early doors trying to get someone on it asap ,
That's for all help and suggestions though ! I'm sure we'll get away somehow tomorrow so will let you know when on site

Wish me luck! Family is unhappy
Hi, when my towing eletrics fitted to car, the fitter added a couple of fuses in rear left hand side, near the audible signal box(not sure why) you may have some there, also check van,as lights are fused for both left and right, You may have more than one fuse blown. You realy must be gutted, Hope you get it sorted sharpish.good luck/
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
Quick update! still not away yet..but got hold of an auto electrics place at 8:00 this morning and latest update is we'll have the car back at midday...which I'll be happy with.
Not sure what the exact problem was but I'll soon find out. Hopefully next update will be from the site.
As an aside anyone driven through and out of Ashbourne before on the Buxton road. Father in law reckons there is an alternative to avoid the hill but I can't see it.
Yippee we're onsite, set-up and sat outside chilling out. Bit stressful but we got car back at midday, just over an hour to Ashbourne and the up the steep (but not significantly so) hill to Callow top.
Problem on electrics turned out to be accesory socket blown and burnt out. Cost £96 to fix but I'm nit bothered we're away!
Well Rossco, I'm just glad that you got the problem sorted in the end and managed to get away. Sometimes even with the best of intentions from help on here you have to resort in professional help. Chill out and have a relaxing time, I think the weather forecast for the region is quite good so that's a bonus for you anyway.
