There's no such thing as a not too expensive cordless drill, you get what you pay for. I bought a cordless drill for £25 for this specific job and the battery wouldn't last. Useless on rallies with no electric hook up so it was a total waste of money for me. I eventually bought a Bosch cordless for well over a hundred pounds and it works well. Iv'e had it for about 8 years now and still working fine. A good investment but a cheap drill is wasted cash in my view.
Thanks for the reply Tango55. I agree that you get what you pay for but Im hoping that I dont have to spend over £100 on a drill. This caravanning game is becoming mighty expensive and I havent been anywhere yet.

I've bought a couple of cheap drills in the past they weren't upto the job . I spent 80 quid on a makita from screwfix . Look for 18v with a decent amp rated battery . If you suffer with tennis elbow , etc they make the job far easier especially if you have the heavy duty steadies on your caravan

You took the words right out of my mouth Pete. Unless I'm missing something blindingly obvious I really can't understand why people have this 'thing' about using a drill to wind the corner steadies. If someone has arthritic hands or a chronically bad back then maybe, but otherwise - why???

I don't bother taking a cordless drill now anyway because it's extra weight and also takes up more valuable space in the boot of the car. I also wind by hand and keep the winder in the front locker to save space and after all said and done you only wind the legs 4 times. Once when departing from home and once on arrival and vice-versa when leaving the site. I would only contemlplate using a power winder if I found it too difficult to continue to wind by hand due to an unforseen disability and then I would try to make life a little easier.

I do have a bad back that often causes me grief and I can hardly move for days. Also had a heart attack less than 2 yrs ago so have to be a little careful now.
Not only that my partner has Multiple Sclerosis so isn't 100% fit by a long way.
Just thought that if we can make life a little easier for ourselves we would. Don't have a huge amount of spare cash though so was just asking for a bit of advice as dont want to waste money buying a chordless drill that will not do the job.
No Im not at all offended Tigermouse. A few years back I would have said exactly what you said, but unfortunately life sometimes comes up and hits you when you are least expecting it. C'est la vie and all that.
Im still after a cordless drill so if you know of any good but not too expensive ones I'd love to hear from you.
Hi CamperPam. Like Tigermouse I can now understand why you would want one. I too apologise if my comment was offensive to you. I must learn to keep my mouth shut unless I have the full facts.
Apologies from me too but my wife said that you probably needed the cordless drill for a specific reason as not everyone wants to reveal what disabilities they have.
You will also need the long socket too (see link) which fits into the drill chuck so a hand tightening chuck would be better than having a key chuck as they can sometimes get lost.

I fitted an Al-Ko stabiliser towbar to my caravan. Saved £100 call out & fitting fee. That will mean a few more weekends away in the caravan this year Well I did have a little help knocking the pin through to release the old towbar.
