Many sites will not allow fan heaters for obvious reasons unless you are paying for the electric. We used to use a gas heater when we were on a seasonal site.
I thought that when you go on a pitch with ehu you pay for the hook up no matter how much electric you use, The site owner knows I use fan heaters,as well as other campers or caravans, you can't or should I say burn anymore electric than ie 16amp ehu can give you, it's swings and round about's, some campers might just want to use a ehu for a light, when another wants it for lighting, kettle, etc.they all pay or it's in with the fee of the pitch, I have never known a site that would ask you" what do you intend to use the ehu for"

I have a Honeywell 1800w fan heater that has been used at times I find it good enough but then there are some who will require a sauna rather than the chill removed.
they (heaters) are retro style and very tough. two settings 1100w and full 1800w many lesser fan heaters are 2000w and 3000w.
I have seen people using heaters which give off quite a bright orange light they occillate too. But because they are quite tall I would be worried in case it fell over.

The tall heaters that you are referring to are Halogen heaters, If it fell over the heater turns off,They have a safety switch under them, if you pick them why they on, they also knock off.
Personaly, I think they are a waste of space.

We have one of these and it works brilliantly. Only paid £19.99 about 18 months ago, on special offer from Yeomans - the deal has finished now. I notice they are now out of stock - sad if this means they are no longer available.
P.S. Just being having a look. Camping World says that the item is no longer available.
I can't justify using an electric heater in the awning - no matter what other people do - I think it is a monumental waste of energy. So if we do need a bit of heat in the awning we use a gas heater - it's a Black Cat left over from our camping days. If it is cold enough to need a heater for any length of time we would most likely go inside the caravan though !!!

To be honest, any heater in an awning, either electric or gas is an 'inefficient' use of energy as the heat disappears quite quickly. I do worry about gas heaters though, especially after having experienced this, caused by a gas heater. Fortunately we don't use ours that often - mainly when we;re entertaining groups in the awning - to many to get in the caravan.

We had a proper gas heatr in our awning for many years without incident. In the link it appears that they left a gas stove on or something with a naked flame and that is asking for trouble.
At least when using my own gas I don't feel so bad. I'm sure the EHU shouldn't have to cover heating an awning to 20 degrees ! But at least then we can all complain when the campsite charges go up !!!!

Have to agree with you Bill, all light and no heat the last time we used one.

some sites charge you extra for putting a awning up,
I can't see the point of having a awning up if you don't use it, some people use them for storage, to sit in them to watch the world go by, or for the kids to play in,for people to sleep in,to entertain, So at night you are cold cos heating is a waste of space? you pay for the ehu up, the site covers it self for the electric if you use it or not, as I said in another post, some use it just for light, or cooking kettles etc,so wot you are saying , the sites will go bust or put there charges up cos you use your ehu for heating the awning or for wot ever so use your gas instead? If you pay for it you use it for wot ever use,Most new vans relay more on 240v hook up, they have hob's, microwave, more lighting, alide heating, also a bigger power ziggy unit to cope, I bought a van with a electric hob but I use the gas ring instead? You are limited to wot you use from the ehu on site,It would be alot better if pitches had meters so you pay for wot you use,and fair to the campers that dont burn more elelectric, but would cost a fortune to do each pitch,I agree that you don't waste electric, but the ehu is there for wot ever use.you mention awnings loosing heat. Isabella awnings for one don't lose heat quickly, they are a seasonal pitch awning, Much better quality materail, same goes for tents , you get wot you pay for.
