I own a Conway Crusader folding camper (2000) we are new to this and we are going through leisure batteries like you wont believe. If i wanted to trickle charge the battery via the mains, do i just plug the EHU lead into the wall and then what? we have a switch with a caravan / off / car and also a switch underneath a seat
This has got us really confused (doesn't take alot)
Plug your camper into EHU,put a voltmeter across the 2 leads to your battery before you connect it, If you get a reading the charger is working, and will charge your battery. If not, check switches are in the right positions and fuses haven't blown.

The only thing that worries me is when you say, "....we are going through leisure batteries like you wont believe.....".
If a leisure battery is simply getting discharged, this should not harm it and you should be able to recharge it simply enough. But if, as you seem to be suggesting, the battery is getting damaged in some way, perhaps you need a caravan sparky to take a look at your system.

Without intending to be critical, but don't you mean "...If you get an increased reading the charger is working..."?
I have a ring charger rc16 and i have done a maintenance cycle on the battery, it came up with an error code of F05 so i took the battery out before winter and kept it indoors, i think its cooked! The battery that we had with the camper was a dud so we are now looking to purchase a 3rd, any advice on a decent battery??
Cheers guy's

I think what Corpogreen is saying is that you check the leads which would go to the battery while they are disconnected. That way you can tell whether the battery charger is giving any output. If you can get at these wires inside, you can try the various switch combinations while watching the meter at the same time.
