im going away next week for the first time ever in our first ever caravan,we're just going local for our first trip cause we've never put an awning up,cant wait. Anyway what i dont know is ,when the battery is very low , how long would i have to charge it for before i travel.
get your self one of these. Turn the main dail to the left to 20 then place the red probe on the live and black on the neutral terminal of the battery and if it reads 12.7 or higher you are about done. Don't forget to take the little caps off the probes!
If you are using a charger that has a trickle feature then once the battery is up to charge it will go to trickle and there should be a light telling you that.

Hi harvester,Congratulations with your new van, I usualy charge my battery over 12hr period, 4hrs on 4 off 4 on, I assume you have twin sockets on your car and van(13pin if brand new), the12n (gray) should charge battery and help keep fridge cold while travelling, As you are going short distance for your first trip, and you would like fridge to be cold on arrival (run fridge for a few hours before you leave home, switch off gas/AC to fridge before you connect to car, Put switch on main control panel to van, hook up and away ) After all the usual saftey checks,doors/ windows/sky light locked /tyres/lights/indicators/tow hich locked on prorerly/brake away cable connected to car/hand brake off, and jockey wheel up.after all that Go and Enjoy. Good luck
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
We have just had to buy a new battery for the van as our old one just would not hold its charge.
The one thing we have noticed on the newer type battery is there is an indicator on the top. If it is green it is in good condition if it is clear it needs charging and if it goes solid white it means the battery is bandjaxed and a new one is needed.
We would normally check the battery a couple of days before going away and then pop it on charge overnight to give it a boost if needed.
Hope you have/have had a good first trip - welcome to tin tent dragging !!!!
