Still trying to decide between a 5 or 6 berth layout for our first van. We are a family of five with three girls aged 9, 7 and 6. We have been looking at traditional 5 berth layouts with a drop down bunk at rear over made up double bed. Our concern is the drop down bunk seems very flimsy even in a Coachman caravan we have seen. Does anyone know what weight /age of kids they will safely support?

many thanks

Our drop down bunk in our Elddis was rated up to 11 stone. However, the size of it would limit who could sleep in it rather than the weight. They tend to be quite short and very narrow.

We have just changed our van as we found the fixed bunks we had too small for our 5 and 8 year old boys. They couldn't roll over in bed or sit up to read. We have gone for a continental van which has massive bunks which should last us.

It is definitely worth researching the bunk sizes before buying.
