We went away for the October half term in our 26 year old ABI Debutante and although the heater works fine (original gas) and the ambient temperature was fine, the floor was absolutely FREEZING. So cold I didn't want to walk on it even in shoes as the cold penetrated my shoes and up my legs!
The weather was very cold down our way that week (frost on cars etc) and we concluded that the caravan was just too old for that time of year and those temperatures.
Am I being a wuss? Is there anything I can do about the cold floor - apart from starting to save up for a more modern van with better insulation?

Took a break like everyone over covid, flogged the caravan and got a campervan!
if you go to a carpet warehouse you can but a 16 foot roll end of carpet from £10 to £100 depends on quality.easy to fit if you use a very sharp knife.or they have there own carpet fitters.if you have an old carpet you can use this as a template.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
It's got laminate at the moment and I'm not up to ripping it out (time and health problems) but I don't know why I didn't think of at least getting some rugs down or something.
I may go wild and buy a long runner with decent pile on it!

My `van is 1979 built , solid floor but with waterproof insulation on the underside of the `van and carpet on the lino`. This works well even in sub zero conditions . We have to remember that `vans have rather a lot of built in vents at floor and high level so we can never get them as toastie as a house . Have you considered a pair of Ugg boots next to the bed and a 1Kw panel heater for when you are on a site with EHU , heater to be placed close to where you put your feet , works wonders .
Good quality 'slipper' socks cures my cold feet woes in the winter. And if i am really cold i put on my crocs too - not a romantic sight but it keeps my feet warm hehe. Once feet are in bed they are toastie warm -ooo errr - we are coming back to that romantic thing again - thank god for freesat lol - there must be something on the blo**y telly! Yes, all of the above - plus a hot water bottle. I have cold feet at the best of times and find putting a hot water bottle under my feet is just the best!
And also use those extra furry bed socks as ordinary socks!
.....Hi, I'm also a Debutante owner (1984). We put a good quality carpet in with a rubber underlay and in addition to the standard gas fire (which we hardly use), we also have a 1500W oilfilled radiator.
As there are only the two of us (plus dog), we have made the bed in the front into a 'permanent' double bed and have an electric blanket that we can use if it's very cold.
The van is normally nice and cosy but we haven't used it in extreme cold.
Just out of interest Feezee, do you know the weight of the Debutante?and where to find the serialnumber?
.Thanks for the swift reply. We have had the caravan (Betty) for nearly four years now. The previous owner had done the electrics and changed the cooker. There was a slight bit of damp in the front, but only a little bit, amazing really for the age. we treated it, repaired it, replaced the awning rail inserts, the door rubbers and a few other bibs & bobs like the Curtains. We have painted it inside, probably not to everyone's taste but we're happy with it. and we have several Dings on the outside.
I'd have a go at attaching some photos but I'm not sure how.....
