Hi.

It looks like we will have to change our car from a Picasso because it won't handle the weight of caravan we have been looking at. We are thinking of a caravan up to about 1200 mtpln.

We quite fancy a Toyota Auris 2.0 diesel.

Has anyone any experience of towing with this car? If so how good/bad did you find it?

I tow a van Heavier than yours with a Picasso without any worries. Yes it does exceed the 85% rule but I'm a confident driver.

we use to have a 51 reg toyota avensis, petrol, not the same as the car you are looking at but it towed our luna clubman well, just a shame an idiot wrote it off for us!

Picasso is a better tow car than the Auris. Think the Picasso can tow up to 1400kg maximum braked weight. Kerbweight of Picasso is about 1500kg depending on variant.

1300kg for the Picasso 2.0 hdi sure it's the same for 1.6 hdi. Good towcar in my opinion

Thanks everyone. Kevtore999 - which model Picasso do you have? Mine is the 1.6 HDi 90 bhp version.

I have seen people mentioning spring assisters - are they necessary on a Picasso or the Toyota Auris?

Don't forget that overall the Auris is a lot smaller inside so you will need to carry more stuff in the caravan. An Avensis diesel auto would be a better buy than the Auris.

We had the 2009  Picasso C4 1600 VTR+ diesel automatic and I can assure you that it struggled with our little 2 berth van and as for a hill start....forget it!

Have an 04 HDi Picasso which tows our Lunar Clubman 470/2 with no problems

Have toured all over the near continent and UK with no troubles at all, sits on the autibahns at steady 100+kph all day, Ok you have to use the gears a bit but when you can average around 28-30mpg towing and around 40-50mpg when not that is a small price to pay given todays fuel prices
