I would guess that 4 to 6 weeks seems a bit pessimistic – although obviously I’m keen to hear of examples to make me think again!

I was unfortunately unable to use my caravan since August and it stayed at the storage site from then until early December when it went for an annual service. I was checking it during this time, about every four weeks. General checks like  keeping the tyres up to pressure, running the gas heating for a few minutes, switching the master and a light on briefly and checking for leaks, mice etc.

However, in those three to four months, the battery received no charge. It runs an alarm and tracker system and ‘beeped’ ok on disarming, and re-arming prior to my departure.

Am I pushing it a bit? Is it common to keep a second battery charged up at home and swapping it over every few weeks if the caravan is not used? Would it have received much charge from the 2 x one hour tow each way to the dealer for service? The battery is only one year old which may have helped.

Interested in any thoughts.
