Hi all, I've just aquired an old Abbey Lancaster 5 berth, circa 1988, to restore.
Could anyone with a similar model please tell me the maximum size gas bottle which should fit in to the front locker?
The 'hole' for the base is 30cm, but about 40cm up from the base there's an obstruction (the seats I assume) which appears to cover the back half where the bottle sits.
I know that a 6kg bottle is 495mm high, but wondered if the 'shoulder' of the bottle would clear the obstruction, or if I need to use the 3.9kg bottles?

By the way, the only bottle I have is 13kg and I know that doesn't fit, but I'm hoping to get it swapped for a smaller one.

Anyone?

Thanks.

Thanks Michael, but I already know all the weights and sizes, that was my first port of call!

What I need to know is what will physically fit in the locker due to the 'shelf' which sticks into the locker.

Without having a 6kg cylinder in front of me, I can't tell how high the 'shoulder' is below the protective cage around the valve, or what size the cage is to see if it will butt up the the shelf which intrudes into the locker!

Thanks for those measurements Michael.

I've actually got 28" in overall height, but this 'shelf' will foul the collar. I suspect if I try to fit the larger bottle it's not going to sit upright, but at an angle.
I suppose, unless someone with the same 'van can confirm, I might be best taking the 'van down to my stockist and trying it!

go to your local tip and ask for a 6kg one, they normally have loads. just measured the total height and its eighteen and one half high, possibly nineteen there is a lip at the bottom where the bottle sits.

Until last year I had a 1987 Abbey Somerset. I had no problems using 7kg Calor butane bottles or 4.5kg propane.
