I am demented my upstairs has been taken over!! In my bedroom in the gap between wardrobes I have all the seat cushions, against the wall is the caravan carpet. In my spare bedroom there are mounds of bedding and mattress protectors - I cannot stand it any more. Is it safe to put all the bedding in vacuum bags and put them in the loft - we've only recently has a new roof so should be as dry as a loft gets. If I put the caravan carpet in a large poly bag and seal it will this survive ok in the loft - I need to declutter before I tear my hair out!!!!!
Bedding in vacuum bags is no problem.
Unless you are sure carpet is completely dry, I wouldn't put it in a bag - it should be fine just left in the loft, as most lofts are very well aired.
You can get plastic bags with stoppers on for storing stuff. The stoppers enable you to draw all the air out. Kleeneze sell them. Useful for the smaller corner cushions/pillows. Many books/magazines recommend using the loft for storage of caravan gear.
We put our caravan carpets under the bed. Keeps them flat all winter and out of sight.
Just the two of us in this three bed house so the caravan bed mattress is on the bed in the third bedroom covered with bedspread so its out of sight. Upholstery is in the middle bedroom and awning bits and pieces in the spare wardrobe in the middle bedroom. Generally use the middle room as an office now the kids have gone and just have a bed settee in here to give us more space for office things. Anyway, two sons arrive for Christmas and the caravan mattress will be moved to middle bedroom for one son to use.
So, whilst its also stored in bedrooms the caravan furnishings etc are out of our way.
Maybe that's the answer....get rid of the kids and use their rooms more usefully?

our seat cushions are placed into quilt covers and placed in the loft, done this for years.all bedding is put into large black bags and sealed and put into loft.awning and poles goes under the bed/tv and sky box too.pillows do not fair too well in storage but at £5 for two easy to replace.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
The only thinmg we take out of our van is the bedding, towels and TV. The rest stays in. Never had a problem in 20 odd years. If it's a question of loft or van, I'd leave it in the van. If you wanted to use the vacuum-packs, IMHO I reckon they would be as well kept in the van as in the loft.

Thats a very good point - if they are vacuum packed they may aswell go in the van.
Yes I wasn't so sure about removing all the cushions I think OH has been reading too much
Havent removed our seat cushions just pulled them away from the wall and stood some up in the aisle .......would do my head in if i had to store that lot at home .Ive brought my bedding home and stored in pretty spotty laundrey bags .so i can just grab them if we decided to wizz off for the weekend

Our van has extra panels that keep the furnishing from touching the outside wall.
All bedding, towels, etc get put in a vacum bag and left in the caravan. Done this for a few years without problem. We don't have any spare rooms so bringing the seating in is out of the question. Although we do have the ventilation panels between the back of the seating and the caravan wall I do still pull the seating out a little or stand it on end. Also put some old throws over the top of the seating to help prevent any fading from the sun.
I would be hesitant about using the loft due to the possibility of any potential visits by mice, would hate to bring the cushions doen in the Spring and find something had made holes in it.

I also wondered about the fibreglass insulation dust up there.
My seat cushions are behind a wardrobe until the spring, sleeping bag, pillows, throws etc inside the wardrobe in vaccum bags. The seat backs are in the van stored upright so that air can get around them. All other cushions, etc are also still in the van. Just too much stuff to put in the house.
we have brought in bedding towles ect and its in ikea bags undre the bed the cusions are in the van stood on end we were not sure what to do but as the van had been stood through 2 winetrs before we got her and nothing had been removed or even moved in the van and everything was ok we though leaving them in there was fine after all there ahd been a tolet roll on its holdre for 2 winters that hadnt even got damp on an outside wall and now its not out in the open but tucked up at the side of the houes
