I leave the main drain, and all of the taps open in the van...i read somewhere that this is best....word of caution, always good to check you've shut them before you first use in the spring! i didn't...(got soaked)
I suppose it makes sense to leave them open, that way every drop of water should drain out & then dry completely. Left shut & a bit of water might collect inside the tap & break the tap in freezing weather.
I left mine open...mind you to be fair I didn't realise until I read this thread and it reminded me that I had left it open! I usually have mine closed to stop anything getting in (if it could). Will probably close it when I go back to storage to empty the dampbuster in a month. Leave your taps open.

Twice I have had a quick break in the 'van at New Year and forgotten to leave the taps open afterwards and each time the taps have been wrecked. The problems is you only find out when you go to flush the pipes through before using the next time and then its a made rush to get replacement taps and fit them. Better to be safe than sorry!

OK thanks all, I'm still not 100% sure then, maybe I will leave it open for a month, closed for a month??? I was thinking it should be shut so no creepies get in.
Plugs left in as well........you can be really paranoid about the little things in life. It is recommended to remove the water filter as well as any dampness in side it may feeeze and break it. Anyway, last winter I just covered mine with pipe insulation and it was ok and that was (according to statistics) the worst winter for thirty years so this one should be OK.

Some will say you don't need a damp buster and some say you do. I use one as it collects loads of water and if it didn't I just think that that water has to go somewhere else so I would rather it drops into a bucket and then gets thrown away. Just pop down to the van (in storage) once a month through winter and empty it.
Don't forget the crystals otherwise it dosn't work!!! One packet will see you through winter. You will be surprised just how much water it collects out of the atmosphere.

open lets the air / water balance take effect so you are fully drained forgot once that was enough went back to the storage yesterday just to check I hadn't forgotten now that the ice is back with us what fun roll on new year off in the van for a bit of fun in the snow
