I just had to post this, as I feel it could endanger someones life.Yesterday I went to check on my caravan in store, and I noticed the caravan next to mine was making a constant chirping noise .I brought this to the attention of the storage yard owner, who informed me that it was the smoke alarm warning that the battery was low. With this in mind I thought that I would check my smoke alarm and to my amazement it was not working(this is a brand new Lunar Clubman SB,bought in september)so I had a look inside to see if the battery was flat or missing.I could not believe my eyes. The battery was there wrapped in plastic and not connected.
As this is a life saving safety device, I felt physically sick, that my wife and I had been away in this van with no smoke detector, especially as we had electrical problems with the van. This is sloppy and poor workmanship on behalf of Lunar and or Campbells to say the least!
So, if anybody has bought or is in the process of buying a Lunar please check that your smoke alarm is functioning properly.I would have contacted Lunar direct but they never answer correspondence from the public, in my experience,SO BEWARE.
I had to contact Lunar about some parts for my 6 month old
Clubman ES. Each time I phoned them they answered straight away and sorted out my query immediately.
When you went for the van did you not do a handover and test everything was working before you accepted it.
------------- Yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Its not lunars fault that the PDI was not done correctly you need to take it up with your dealer, and I have had to contact Lunar twice with enquirys regarding our van by email in the last month and got a reply within 48 hours.

I made the mistake of trusting the dealer to do a proper PDI.This obviously did not happen.

Oh for goodness sake get a grip ! Is it not as much your fault as it is theirs for not testing it yourself ? Blimey !

If that is your atitude,is no wonder dealers don't PDI.caravans! and why is it that people on these forums condemn the customer rather than the real culprits. Is it that the majotriy are connected to the trade?

Backaxle
I wish I was connected to the trade...... I might get a cheap caravan or two !
I just think that you are completely over reacting about something that you could have checked yourself quite easily by pressing the button in the middle to test it ! Don't you do that at home ?
A lot of people here have horrendous stories about all the things that have gone wrong with their brand new vans - and all you've got is some cellophane wrapped around your bloomin' smoke alarm battery ! The amount of fuss you seem to be making about it is quite unbelievable !
Hi would have thought that Campbells would have been a bit more thorough with the PDI obviously an error on their part and a bit slack. Must say Lunar are very good at responding to queries, being a Lunar Delta SB owner myself , have contacted them several times. We regularly check our smoke alarm and CO2

If you buy a battery powered CO or smoke alarm it will probably already be fitted with a battery, separated from its contacts by a thin strip of plastic removeable by the user without needing to open the cover.
If this was the case, it is understandable that the installer (factory?) would not remove the tag, but it is debatable whether the dealer should have done so, or informed the customer of the need to to so, or simply assumed the customer would read the intructions which ought to have been supplied.
There has obviously been a potentialy serious oversight, fortunately without consequences, but putting it into perspective, historically, how many caravanners have survived countless nights in vans which have never been fitted with alarms?
This is not an over reaction to a battery that should have been checked, but just one of a dozen problems that the'van had after I collected it.I had so many things going on I did not think to check the smoke alarm had been activated, that should have been checked on PDI.plus I still haven't had the Handbook which I expect explains that the alarm is not active.
Plus I am not making a fuss,I posted this to make other owners aware of a potential problem. It is other posters making a fuss trying to defend dealers.
I don't think any of us are trying to defend dealers. Any reputable dealer should promptly rectify any faults and welcome any suggestions pointing out shortcomings in their service.
I'm sure your original post is serving its intended purpose, warning others to check all equipment especially with regard to safety, both at time of delivery/first use and periodically.
Seems we need a hand book to check everything now!!
On all our vans i have gone round and prodded and poked everything to see if it works and to find how it works before i have used it,then i know i don't have to put my trust in somebody else who may or may not done their job properly.
