Sorry Rune, but I don't think I agree with you here. To say that you don't want your caravan back is largely irrelevant. I guess that if your caravan is found and is in the same condition then you will get back your caravan irrespective of what you say or want. As far as I am aware, the caravan company have no other obligation to pay out, other then to put right any damage that might have occured. If you get your caravan back and decide you don't want to keep it then it is up to the individual to decide if they want to sell the van and buy another new one.
We had our last caravan stolen and had to wait for a period of time to see if the van turned up. We felt that as the caravan was owned by us and taken away without our permission, it (and by association), we, had been violated. We did not feel as if we wanted the van back. If the van had been found, then the van would have been returned to us and we would have had to have put up with that, irrespective of the way we felt or what we said. As it so happened, the van did not turn up and our insurance company provided a new van for us after appropriate negotiations with us.
This brings up another interesting point though. Can you buy insurance that guarantees you a new van, irrespective of whether the van is found or not? (I'm not talking new for old here as even that depends on the van not being recovered.) If such a policy exists then I wouldn't mind betting it's pretty expensive - I've never heard of such a policy. I wonder if there is a market for this?
The real point of what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't matter what the individual policy holder says or wants. They will only get what they are covered for. If individuals require less cover, then less cover (and therefore a lesser premium) can be provided by searching for the policy the individual requires. To openly say that we didn't want our caravan back was irrelevant to the terms of our insurance and is therefore irrelevant to whether that insurance is offered.
Best wishes - no offence meant!
