Hi all

It looks as though our beautiful 2008 Fleetwood Heritage has been terminally damaged by our site and their electricians putting 440v through it.  Received wisdom from 3 quotes is that it's probably irreparable - just too expensive and difficult to fix.

Initially we hoped to claim direct off the site - but to get new-for-old we will have to via our CC insurance.  Can anyone give me an approximation of how long they take to process the claim, agree a replacement, and issue a cheque or source a replacement?

I hate to say it.... but Christmas is around the corner....and we have plans to spend it in the caravan - so I need to know if it's likely to be possible or else book something else!

Your experiences please!!!!

We had a claim on our CC insurance recently and within a week of making the claim the engineer came to inspect the van and the repairs were authorised within a second week.

just as a guess will the cc club not try to recoup the claim from the people responsible for the accident in the first place to save your premiums

Ooooh this is all sounding really good news - we've kind of wasted a week talking to the site/electricians directly and waiting for their insurers to respond - so it feels like it's dragging already - but maybe once CC have all our info & quotes (hopefully tomorrow) etc it will move along faster!

Yes, Simon23 we very much hope that CC will persue the site for our out-of-pocket expenses and we should also be able to recoup the excesses I hope - not sure if we have the equivalent of "protected no claims bonus" like on our cars.... but at £25,000 for a new equivalent caravan we can't afford not to make the claim just to save our NCB.

The caravan bought off the insurers should make a feasable project for a diy'er with abilty. I imagine it was written off because of man hours involved in the repair.

They will do a hassle free settlement of the claim by the OP and then pursue the people responsible to recover what they have paid out.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

It hasn't actually been written off just yet - but our 3 qoutes all say it is economically unviable because it needs a total new wiring loom which would involve running wires under/behind furniture, panels etc and because it's a Fleetwood sourcing parts etc would be more difficult as they are sadly defunct.  It would probably make a good hospital project or a very good source for breaking.
