Hi All,

We bought a New Eccles 90 Ruby in October last year, and used it the night we bought it at a CC site just up the road from the dealer. We thought it was super to have a fixed bed etc, as you can see from our posting on here. However, due to circustances we were unable to use it again until March 10. On arriving we found a few faults with it, the tap was leaking onto the worktop, the shower door seemed to have 2 mag strips of the same polarity as they would not stay shut, the TV pull down catch had broken off, and after using it for the weekend the edging strip had come off on the drawers above the fire and under the sink, and the fridge would not work on 12v, or from the car hook up.

So we rang the dealers and booked it in for them fo fix it. After having it for a week we went to collect it only to find the shower door magnets had to be ordered, thats fine i said, 3 weeks later i called to say there was a 3 month lead time in getting these??? why, surely they have them at the factory???. The fridge still doesnt work and they told me i have to have it overhauled. Then to top it off we went to the lake district only to find the awning rail wont take the awning as the bits that you put the awning into are not big enough for the awning cord.

I am sorry to rant and rave but it cost £16,000. What advise can you give me as the reason we bought the ruby was for the shower and end toilet as we do a lot of weekend cl caravanning?/

Clearly your dealer does not seem to want to push a bit to get these things sorted. Why can't the magnets come off a showroom model. I appreciate that your contract is with the dealer but you do oftem get a sympathetic hearing from Swift Group if you contact their Customer Services direct. There does seem to be a general problem with the locks on the drop down TV cabinet, the one on ours broke, but it had lasted about 2000 miles!

I looked at one in October at the NEC. The catch on the TV cabinet was broken on that too and thats before it even got sold.

That doesn't sound good, I would be contacting Swift Direct. They also have their own forum now, swift-talk.

Regarding the fridge on 12V, it should only work from the car when the engine is running, so I am not quite sure what you mean re the fridge.

Hi Thanks for the feedback. Ref fridge, when car is connected and running it shows a spanner and error 10.

These are only a few of the faults found but the small one's were fixed when i took it back to catterick caravans, I have also contacted Swift direct and I am still waiting for a reply.

Hi there

we too have a sterling ruby,a few niggles with it but I am more concerned about your comments on the awning rail size. As yet we have not tried our new awning on the caravan presumed it would fit!!!!!!!!!!!!would be interested to hear if any other "Ruby"owners have had a problem and if so how was it resolved

For the fridge, the first thing to check is whether the car is providing power. Even if it worked on a previous van, things can go wrong. After that it would be wiring/fuses in the van.

The new fridges do draw more power. Is your car 13 pin, or are you using an adaptor?

Do you have to press the 12v button on the main control panel as well as setting the fridge to 12v operation on your model?

Hi June,

We bought a new appache awning when we bought the van. Its the openings to slide the awning into, there is only one at the rear of the van that the awning cord fits in, the others are not open enough to get the cord in so we had to slide the awning in and then feed the full awning past the front end so there was about 3 feet on the floor then feed the end into the opening and then pull the whole lot back to the rear. The Major problem is the awning skirt would not fit into any of the openings and when i called dealer they said they had a tool to open up the opening(helpful when you are 200 miles from the Dealer set up on site), (mental note to self, try the awning whilst still at the dealers next time.)

I hope your tiny problems are resolved june. I still havent heard back from Swift yet. Customer Relations, What customer relations........

Hi there June and fellow Ruby owners. Have to say we've had no niggles with our van.....we did scrape it down the side of a post which pulled our wheel arch off, our dealers sorted it out and didn't charge us (we were expecting to pay 'cause it was our fault - being total newbies at the time).
We're really pleased with ours...

and June - have you stayed at Ebury Hill ?? Fabulous site!

Sue

Hi SusieSu.

I'm pleased you have had no niggles with yours, and I must say that overall I am pleased with the van. However its the Dealer I am not so happy with, But then again we shall se this weekend when I take it to have the remaining niggles sorted including the awning rail.

Hi there Susie and other Ruby owners Glad to say our minor niggles have been sorted out by a visit on site from the manager from where we purchased the caravan!!!!!!!This to my way of thinking was over and above the call of duty,it was a Saturday night and a 100 mile round trip for him,we were lucky. Have sorted the awning out Yorkie, ours went through easily thank heaven.  We had purchased an Isabella awning at the Malvern show before we took delivery of the van and not tried it before your comments oops!!!!!!No Susie have not tried Ebury Hill,is that the one off the back way from Shrewsbury to Newport. We are off to Manor Farm at Upton this weekend with the OCC and then up to Castle Howard for SBH,where are you off to

Hi June - I think Ebury Hill is in that neck of the woods - well worth a visit! We're not going anywhere this weekend but off to Bridgenorth on the 20th May. I am loving the 'caravan life'.

Have to say sounds like you had top customer service!!

Enjoy all your trips!

Sue

Hi Susie,

Yes are lucky with our dealer allthough he is not local we have recommended lots of people to him and they get the same service.  I see you are off to Stanmore Hall soon you must let me know what it is like now. The last time we went there our children were little now they have caravans and children of their own!!!!!!!!!We  loved it then hope it is still good.  Like you we love the "caravan life"and all that goes with it (the odd bottle of wine comes to mind)

hi there all we brought a new eccles ruby this year and we have had no joy with it at all there are so many problems its un real swift have said its nothing to do with them, the dealer as not only tried to tell us that water coming in through the windows when driving in the rain is excepticle, and the tv bracket modifacation is rubbish they put wood filler in the holes were the old brackets were, this is not excepticle, and then when we picked up the caravan our step was missing our tv as a peice missing and the transformer lead had gone astray, they av allso told us that we are towing it with the wrong type of car (discovery 3) Due to sut coming into the caravan , well my fellow caravaners all I can say is £16000 is alot of money ,and iam now in the process of legal action, ps if a caravan manifacturer is happy to turn out poor quality products like this then see you in court
