Like everything inside the caravan during the winter I would have thought you need it to air, maybe covering it with plastic is not such a good idea, our caravan like many others has side airing board gaps at the back of the cushions but we still pull everything away from the outside of the caravan.
For what its worth we stand our matteress on end 'without covering it' and turn it a few times during the winter.
we will just turn it on end like the other seat cushions etc..I place a few bowls of salt hear and there suprising how much moisture it takes out of the air.
I just left mine on the bed. did it no harm. BUT, i found you are better off useing a matteress protector when in use. other wise the covering on it starts to go saggy.
------------- Roughing it in style at Calloose caravan and camping holiday park nr St Ives.(seasonal pitch)
Its not a hangover, its wine flu!
We leave the mattress on but always raise the bed a little and prop it up so that the air can circulate.
We always leave our hollogen (sp) in there on one bar on a timer during the coldest weather open all the locker doors and pull the cushions away from the sides.
If you take a look on JD williams catalogue, they have totally enclosed matress protectors. Obviously not with the corner cut off like on some fixed beds, but still worth a thought maybe? They look breathable material?
Morning Dan, Mike and Jennifer! Help please, my oh says he will put our fixed bed mattress in our spare room but can i ask as a novice caravanner what do we do with other soft furnishings and curtains over winter? do they need to come inside also?
We used to take all soft furnisings home and put in our spare room... but this year we might just stand them on end...but we visit the van over winter nead somewhere to sit..and put the heater on for a few hours ( ours is in storage ) put a few bowls of cheap salt here and there works a treat.
