Just had three year service on van and they have found damp n/s front behind back cushion no probs anywhere else has anyone had this problem and how did the manufactors deal with your claim.
Yes us too, I know just how you feel ......devastated! three year service, found top front side in locker, nothing visable and I am told by the reading nothing that means it's urgent.
You should be fine getting it done as long as you have had it serviced by a caravan council approved workshop/sevice engineer. A lot of people think you have to take it back to the dealer you bought it from for the service, this is just the case for warranty work, The last service we had was with a mobile engineer and he found the damp.
We arranged to take it to the dealer they looked but couldn't see where it could be getting in.
They got the go ahead from Bailey and they have ordered all the parts to replace awning rail, top seam etc, including a new front just in case they find a crack in the panel.
The parts took a about six weeks to come, we weren't worried about the wait as we use the van a lot but slow down a bit at this time of year. It's booked in to be done the week after next.
I will be a little worried as to how it will be on picking it up but I am hoping it will be as good as new.
Oh and I see you have an Abbey! glad to see it's not just Baileys as everyone would have us believe.
Hi Pete
We had a front window changed in our Avondale vans first year by an Avondale dealer. We found damp under the same window in year 3 and the warranty folk would not honour it because it had already been worked on even though it was a registered dealer ?????? why? haven`t a clue as they wouldn`t even discuss it. Found damp at the rear of the van at the same time and that was repaired under warranty? (cost us £500 for the front) They try everything to wangle out of paying so make sure all paperwork/servicing up to date.

Hi Janx, thought i was on my ownso thanks for your input, my only concerns are the time it will take for the claim to go through and how Swift Group deal with it.I'm not going to the dealer where we bought it to do the work as they are a waste of space, can't print what i really think.
We have a 2006 Swift, found the dreaded damp at the end of May this year, water ingress from awning rail on rear panel. STILL waiting for Swift to approve work under warranty. Took them three months to agree we even had a warranty. Due a phone call to the dealer today to check on progress. Getting to the end of my tether TBH, really dont need this on top of current health problems.
Hi Pete, sorry to hear of your problem. We have just gone through the whole process, sounds a similar situation to yours. Our owned-from-new Sprite was found to be damp on its 3rd service, our dealer was absolutely useless. It sat at their place for 3 months,we kept getting fobbed off,so in the end I spoke to Swift directly-best thing I did. They were great, took over everything for us.It did take a couple of months to get the work started, but when it did it was done swiftly (excuse the pun) and with great customer service.
Only problem is,on its last service (May this year),it showed still damp, however work had only just been completed,so we are taking the van back for another damp test this coming week.Fingers crossed.
Pete, if you aren't taking it back to the dealer who are you taking it to? Surely Swift won't approve it if it's done anywhere other than a Swift dealer.
Gasman and Jenny, sounds like you have had a bad experience, at least it appears that our dealer is doing all thay can. I say our dealer it is actually the sister company to where we bought our van because though they are the same company they are like chalk and cheese to deal with.
A good point there too Gasman about the repair being under warrant if it should need doing again, I will have to remember to ask about this.
All people buying a new van I have said before and I will say again, reccommendations and reputation of the dealer are the most important thing because this is who you will have to deal with all through the warranty period.
Hi Janx,we are using another dealer that are approved by Swift,we called in today on the way home from weekend away so they could start the claim rolling.Six to Eight weeks if we are lucky
We have got water coming in somewhere through the front window, our dealer has booked us in for the last week in November to have a look, so god knows how long we will be with out the van, Ours is just over four years old.
I am not a caravanar as you will probably see after my question. Why do caravans who are towed for holidays suffer from damp after seeing some posts on here.Residential vans on big sites seem to be free from these problems. There must be a reason that I can't see.I realise from answers on here it is or can be a big problem.
Caravans leak because of the body flexing while towing. Also using corner steadies for levelling or jacking should be avoided. Larger caravans are more prone to leak than smaller 'vans but to put things into perspective its only a small % of caravans that do leak.

Thanks for the reply, logical reason didn't think of that.
Margaret hi,
didn't realise you were having probs with yours again, is this the van we saw you in at Tansley? if so you had a lot of problems when you first got it didn't you with one thing and another? I know this wasn't damp though.
Pete,
pleased you look as though it will be sorted, your lucky another dealer will look at it they usually say they are too busy with their own sales.
