Wow i didn't know that ! It's the one Notts Da has arranged for the last 46 years & is held at Walesby Scout Camp,Nottinghamshire. The actual Fair has been going for around 700 years i think ! but we don't go to that any more.
Gosh never knew there was another one but then I have lived in Nottingham all my life and visited the fair many times. Until last year when I joined this site I wasn't aware that people came to Notts especially to visit the fair, Walesby for me is the place I take my Cubs on camp and also has the best visit Santa experience nearby, lots of other places nearby to visit too hope you have a great time.
I won't be going to the fair but I always have a drive past because the lights look absolutely beautiful its well worth a visit but the rides are quite expensive these days pity because I can remember when it was 50p a ride That certainly shows my age.
Edit: just googled Goose fair theres another in Tavistock -it looks nice too.

We used to do the fair when the children were young ! now we just meet up with the outlaws and chill ! mainly in the beer tent Some good live music too
Every second Wednesday in October Tavistock plays host to an annual fair dating back to the 12th Century.
Farmers brought their geese for sale, and drove them through the streets to the Market. Although this practice has virtually stopped, it is still possible to obtain goose lunches at the various restaurants and cafes in the town on that day.
The fair attracts market traders and showmen from all over the Country. Stalls and side-shows are set up in the centre of the Town, and the adjacent roads are filed with over 200 traders.
People come from all over the West for the fair, and old and young alike enjoy the atmosphere, especially in the evening when the coloured lights are aglow, and the music coming from the fairgrounds can be heard for miles around.
I doubt if, in the 12th Century anyone visiting the Tavistock one (or the Nottingham one ) would have had the slightest inkling that there was another one, the distances between them being so far.
------------- How come when some people visit the fountain of knowledge, they only gargle!!!

Just got back from the Notts D A goose fair meet, we only went for the day, not for weekend. Went last year and found the "trade area" very disapointing. Much better this year. As a matter of interest Stevo1 I remember going to the Goose fair meet when it was at Caythorpe. I had some good week ends, but remember an awefull lot of muddy ones. It is much better at Walesby.
I also remember as a tenager (early70s) going to visit my parents at the Goose Fair meet. At that time it was held at Burnt Stump Hill. I seem to remember around 50 'vans on site. And that was considered a large meet back then. How things have changed.

There certainly used to be a Goose Fair in Hull too, I think it followed on from the Nott's one when the fair split into two, can't recall where the other half went LOL

Hi, Just got back ourselves ! Agreed a lot better Trade this year. I do indeed remember one muddy year at caythorpe, we had to be towed out ! There was a year also like this at Walesby 2 years ago, where people had to be towed from the mud. We always have a great weekend, with all credit to the Notts Da for all their organisation & hard work. .
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
