hi, anyone have any advice on the best breakdown deals? we have caravan insurance but looking at breakdown cover. Green Flag looks to provide the best value but does anyone know better?
RAC Arrival from C&CC and Mayday from CC are the only dedicated caravan breakdown services neither of which has a limit for size of caravan.
Check each one carefully for what you get as they are not identical - Mayday is cheaper until you realise that it doesn't include as standard some of the benefits that Arrival does.
No other breakdown service includes your caravan as part of the service unless it is hitched to the vehicle and on a main road, and that includes the RAC and Greenflag, you will also find width and length restrictions in force on all the other breakdown services - Length I believe is 7 metres including the A frame.

I checked on the length issue with Green Flag, it's 7m excluding any A frame.

We use green flag for uk but would go for Europe assisatance if going abroad which is who the clubs contract out to. We just buy it direct.
Hi
Is that both clubs that contract out to Europe Assistance please? Has anyone had the misfortune to use Europe Assistance What did you think of the service?
You can't tow anything longer than 7m with your ordinary saloon car which is why the limit...they don't do vans that can carry pickup trucks!!!
Anyway we're with Green Flag and when we looked around and checked prices etc we thought that they gave the best all round service. The one thing they don't do is to bring you a tyre if you get a burst. If you don't have a spare to fit, they will get you to your destination and then you have to go and look for a tyre. For £95 for three years you can sign up for Tyron Assist and they will call out to wherever you are within two hours and fit a new tyre on so you can be on your way under your own steam rather than being loaded onto a truck . You pay for the tyre. You don't have to have Tyron Bands to use the service. Maybe another option especially if your van does not carry a spare tyre.

We've just switched from green flag to RAC as we got a discount for being members of the c & cc club, we have found the prices competitive and we are covered not the cars so we can be driving anything and break down and they will come out rather than if we are in a certain vehicle, For our trip to Belgium next week I have arranged temporary cover through the RAC

CC Mayday (which piggy back on Green Flag), for us. Have always had excellent service and we are covered double journey when towing a caravan to a pre-booked site.
Thanks for all your advise... I've been looking at Green Flag/Mayday so will probably give them a ring and get some prices. Hope I never have to use them but better safe than sorry. Cheers
Apologies for resurrecting this thread but I'm having trouble getting breakdown cover.
I'm with the AA at the moment but their renewal cost is stupidly high. However, everywhere else I try has a length restriction of 7m (which I assume includes the A-frame) and my van is 7.5m.
I've tried all of the companies mentioned in this thread and several others and they all seem to have a 7m limit (one had a 5.5m limit, including the car ) - am I reading the policy wording wrong? Who does everyone else use (I know there are bigger vans than mine, which is only a single-axle)?

RAC Arrival from the Camping and Caravanning Club or (as far as I'm aware) Mayday from the Caravan Club both have unlimited restrictions regarding size, in both cases you have to be a member of the respective club to obtain the benefits

Thank you both - Britannia is a good option and so is Mayday (I didn't consider them because they are basically the same as Green Flag but it seems they have different T&Cs for CC members)...
Thanks again...
