After reading several messages about this company I thought I would like to add my experience particularly as the Caravan show is approaching. Last october at the NEC show I ordered a new Sterling eccles Quartz caravan from Glossop to be picked up the following June.
We picked the caravan up in June and 4 weeks later i decided to clean the cravan incuding the roof. It was then I found cracks at eack corner on the rear of the van where the panel meets the roof. I sent photos of these cracks to swift and glossop. Swift stated they were stress cracks and easily remedied. The same phots were seen by Glossop who stated that the cracks were definitely not caused through stress but were impact cracks and inferred I must have damaged the caravan.
In the meantime the water pump failed the power unit is erratic and continually needs to be reset and the nearsdide wheelarch fell off!!
I was not at all happy about these cracks so I took the caravan to an independent engineer who straight away told me that the cracks were caused by impact and had been repaired and the panel resprayed. This had obviously been done prior to me collecting the caravan.
All Glossop origonally offered was to repair the caravan. I told them that this was not acceptable and I wanted a replacement new caravan which I thought was perfecctly reasonable. The general manager replied saying that a replacement would be provided if I would not accept a repair. But following this offer I have been unable to contact him to discuss the replacement, phonecalls are never returned and now my e-mails are also ignored.
I have decided that enough is enough and I have contacted a solicitor, trading standards and my credit card company in an effort to get a refund. I have found the whole experience of what was supposed to be a retirement investment for future holidays to be totally stressful and a disappointment.
I would have thought Glossop would have been keen to remedy the problem as I was only asking to be put in the same position as when I purchased the caravan, ie to have a new undamaged caravan, not one with a poor repair job.
So if you are off to purchase a new caravan at the NEC this month pause for thought
