Just a reminder to everyone to take your water filter out now it's getting frosty at night. I forgot last year (to my cost). Ice formed and the filter expanded and snapped an internal part of the Truma filter housing. This meant that the seal was not airtight any more = water heater emptying back into Aquaroll = no running hot water.
Result - had to replace entire filter housing. Won't be forgetting that again!!!
good advice ,we caravan in the winter as well, but we empty water system and take filter,s out in between trip,s also remember to open tap,s so they dont crack in cold weather.

We take out our filter in winter but keep it till the start of the season for flushing out the system, this saves the new filter from the effects of chempro etc..
We had the shower tap valve crack with ice last winter, I drained the water system out but forgot about the small bit left in the shower pipework to my cost.
Our water filter is at the bottom of the pipe that fits into the aquaroll, i.e. where our old submersible pump used to be on our old van. We still sometimes still refer to it as the water pump, but of course it's not, it's the filter - unless, of course there is another filter I don't know about. We've always left it in a cupboard in the van and never had a problem. Perhaps we ought to bring it into the house if it is likely to cause a problem.
We now drain down the water system everytime we leave a site, so we know it's not a thing we might forget for the winter. Its easy on the newer vans: open the taps and flip the drain switch.
we dont have a filter , just as well driving through France last xmas we had temps down to minus 8 and we had snow build up to 3 inches thick on the front of the caravan , the only thing we had due to cold was the wipers freezing on the car even with heaters fan full on so we had to stop at every services to clean the wiper blades and scrape the snow from the front of the caravan

So how do you know if you have a filter or not then?

Had a van once with no filter and one of the taps stopped working.When i checked it out it had minute grains of sand or some thing in it i checked the rest including the shower which we didnt use,all the same.My guess is the filter also stops dirt etc getting into the system.
