My head is spinning at the moment, and I wondered if any of you kind and knowledgeable people could help?

We're looking for a twin-axle caravan with front and back dinettes and also a side dinette. We'd like to convert the back dinette to a permanent bed, so would like it to be at least 5ft wide. The side dinette is to be used as a dog bed (yes, I know, we spoil them, lol!). We're not too fussed about a shower, but the toilet compartment must be large enough for the fuller figure...... Ideally, we'd like a caravan which is 2 or 3 years old, but will consider new if that's all there is.

We've seen that there are Hobby caravans out there which fit our requirements nicely (they already have large island or transverse beds), but would like to know what else is out there.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi

Practical caravan magazine has layouts for new vans in their buyers guide at the back which you may find helpful, however if you go to www.caravanfinder.co.uk then you can search for vans for sale for the particular layout you are interested in. Obviously not all vans are for sale on this site but if you identify the caravan you want you could then do a general search on the internet, ebay etc and try and find one for sale,

I had a quick look and didn't see any with the layout you suggested, although there are lots of vans with a fixed bed at the back with side dinette

Hi Lisso

You will need a tractor to tow most Hobby caravans safely, not a Kia Sorento.    Also not sure what you mean about 'layouts', if you want to see 'inside layouts' then most of the caravan brochures even on line (sample attached) show the layouts for each of their range, just click on the Layout section.                       http://www.bailey-caravans.co.uk/product-range/new-caravans/classic-construction/ranger/summary/

Hope this might help. or not!

Mike

For the caravanner with a fuller figure i would choose a layout with a rear bathroom.

Thanks Mike,

Oh yes, all comments help, thanks! Re needing a tractor, we have just moved onto a seasonal pitch this year, so that is the main impetus for change.

I've viewed a number of manufacturers' websites and seen countless layouts, but, obviously, these are just for their current ranges, not for caravans which are 1-3 years old. The caravan finder links above are very useful, but I guess there is no substitute for good old legwork and trawling round the dealerships.

On that point, has anybody else noticed the very low number of second hand caravans on sale at dealerships at the moment? We spoke to a dealer at The Lawns show who said that they were desperate to get some part ex's in, as their stocks are so low. Good time to get a good trade-in price, methinks!!

Thanks, you're right!

However, I have a real dislike of sinks in the bedroom! I know, I'm being fussy, but I can't help it! I'm just clumsy, and I know that water would end up all over the bedding, and I wouldn't be popular.

I'm not normally so awkward, honest, but when it comes to choosing a caravan, it has to be perfect!!

Thanks!

Lizzo

Speaking as someone 'with a fuller figure', and speaking as someone who has had both side and rear washrooms that go across the back of the van, I agree entirely with this comment.
