Just noticed that every other van in our storage site has it's steadies down - is that necessary?------------- 'In later life, you will be more disappointed with the things you didn't do than with the things you did.' - Mark Twain

I would not say it is necessary but it doe’s mean that if your jockey wheel clamp was to fail then your van would not collapse onto the A frame.

You'd also have to remember not to walk into the back of the caravan otherwise you'll end up tipping it and will probably damage the back end! I feel safer with the steadies down and also it will take a thief those few seconds longer if they have to wind up the steadies-------------

Agreed - with the steadies down you can leave the handbrake off, otherwise the shoes can rust to the drums and then it's a right pain to release them.

Good idea to move a stored van every few weeks to stop things seizing up and to rotate the tyres. No need to take it far.------------- * You never know where you're going 'til you get there...

We wind our jockey wheel right the way down so the van is nose down, Then wind the rear steadies all the way down until quite firm, then wind the front down. Locks on all steadies also.
This means it is harder to lift the van should a thief want to try and steel it by not being able to jack it up onto a hitch (well thats the theory) also have a hitch lock and wheel lock on. quite a few owners do this on our storage site. also means the water can run off the roof a lot better, when it rains.

I do the opposite, nose high so everything can run off the back (tree's to the rear of it).------------- Enjoying caravanning, realising what an expensive hobby it is and spending the family’s inheritance before they can get their hands on it!

good ideas - it didn't cross my mind to leave the nose up (or down)
I can see it will help water run-off the roof...but does it help keep the roof clean ?

Mentioned already but a factor in favour of having the steadies down is that without the wind may just turn your van into another. Brake off as the nature of wheel brakes could result in the brakes seizing onto the wheel. Then you go nowhere. This is more likely with long periods in storage, e.g. over winter.
