M1 today round junction 30 ,whats left of a a caravan sat on the central barrier. miles of tailbacks in both directions , looked like a sorrento on the back of the recovery truck , hope everyone get out ok.
still caravan after caravan flying past us just after the scene , you`d think it would shake folk up abit seeing those scenes but they dont seem to care

Possibly because everyone thinks that their combination is better matched or their caravan is loaded perfectly than the one that was involved in the accident or perhaps they think their tyrons or Alko hitch stabliser will save them.
People read about all these safety features and forget that their way of driving is more likely to be the biggest cause of having an accident!
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
totaly agree with rune caster, just arrived home from west wales talking to a guy from kidderminster ,he had a land rover towing a twin axle bailey,he was trying to impress me by saying how fast he was towing on motorway,75 mph, and it only took him two and half hours to get here, just makes you think why we here of so many caravans turning over, when will they ever learn.
------------- its easy enough to be pleasant when the world rolls along like a song.but a man is worth while if he can smile when every thing goes f------ wrong.
So were you impressed by his 75mph? If not can we guess what words were in your mind at the time?

id have personally called him a fud had he admitted to me towing at that speed.what alsways gets me with people like this is in the event of an accident, its always someone else who gets hurt.
hope he gets caught and hammered next time

I couldn't afford to drive that fast in my Disco, even if (a) I wanted to (and, by the way, I don't), and (b) if the car would go that fast 'comfortably'. Just think of the fuel he is using travelling at that speed! I think travelling at that speed towing a caravan is basically irresponsible.

Likewise, hope there were no serious injuries.
It doesn't matter how well matched or loaded your unit is or how carefully you drive. You're never the only ones on the road & are never in control of what others do so none of us are immune to accidents.
I had someone fly past me today. I live at the tip of a peninsular one road in one road out and its single lane 30 or 40 MPH for most of the way (10 miles) ... OMG the driver literally flew past me in the opposite direction and took it really fast into a bend. Me and the kids held our breath waiting for the crash but amazingly there wasnt one and he shot off again. I half wondered if it was someone stealing a van going at that speed ... just crazy!!!!!

Well said Vanessa. There is always the assumption that the victim was travelling too fast or had other issues with his outfit when the accident in question may have been caused by the behavior or circumstances of someone else. Rather than get uptight about what other people are doing we should concentrate on our own performance behind the wheel. If we all act responsibly we at least lessen the risk of a problem.
Apparently a caravan overturned at Bawtry yesterday. Hope they are Ok

Scary. We've also noticed that though most people do seem to slow down for a while right after whizzing by a road accident, after a few minutes a lot are generally driving like lunatics again.

I am so careful towing our van. If I feel the slightest rock or sway I will slow down and sometimes it is frustrating if I don't feel comfortable over 50mph but as long as we get there safe it is worth it.
hello we are in Cornwall at the Moment at the Monkey tree site, i have never seen so many caravans speeding up and down the A roads its scary !!!,,,,,,,,oh and the weather is DREADFUL !!! HEAVY RAIN !!!
------------- wishing everyone,,,,what you would wish for yourselves x
We drove back last evening from Cornwall to Oxfordshire in our "Mobi" at a comfortable 60mph, get good milage on the petrol at that speed, and was amazed by how many cars towing caravans passed us, some with quite a lot of wobbling, some too the caravans seemed to heavy at the front, surely that puts extra strain on the car?? what do I know I am only a woman, but they didn't look safe to me. what is the correct speed for towing, just curious. We travelled on A30, M5, M4 then A34.

I think you're supposed to know this before you venture out onto the road!!!!
50mph on a single carriage way and 60mph on a dual carriageway unless the speed limit for the road is lower in which case the lower speed is the limit.

I think they have a MH so probably don't know the speed limit for caravans.
