my frends were around tonight and they have a smart car and were lafing as they had seen a tow bar for it on ebay anyway I was wondering if there as actuly a caravan that light that a smart car could leagaly tow it. does a smrat car have a tow weight I have seen them being towed but never towing

According to the current brochure, they're not type approved for towing as Grampian91's mentioned above. I did come across one some years ago where the owner had fabricated his own means of attaching a towball to pull a lightweight trailer, but that clearly wasn't a legal option either.
The average kerbweight is only 720kgs.

Maybe not, or would the German type approved towbar not suit British laws, though the following place apparently has a wiring kit for GB.

I think thats what they ahd seen they dont want a cavavan they have just sold theres. But it was just in conversation we wonderd if there was a caravan that could possibly be towed by one

My car (a new Ka) is bigger and heavier than a Smart, with a much bigger engine, and isn't approved for towing (I checked because I wondered about getting a very small trailer for it so that Lady P and I could tent-camp when hubby can't get away for the weekend), so I can't imagine a Smart being able to tow.
i would of thought the Ka and Smart car be too small and not enough power, even for the smaller caravans. i have heard bad safety stories for those cars and wouldn't risk towing a caravan
Here we go, some information regarding the Smart car and towing. I have seen at least 2 Smart cars in the UK with towbars on so had wondered about this myself.
And according to that website, 450kg braked or unbraked is not a bad weight at all! Even my little Starlet can only tow 450kg unbraked!
