Well me again :) looking at caravans to buy and really like the look of this one, it is on eBay and is an Avondale kingfisher 4 berth, 250676013167, what are peoples views please? This will be our first ever caravan
And to sleep 2 adults and 2 children. Thanks
Are you confident at diy?, that damp corner looks pretty soft .
looks like you would have to replace the wallboards , and who knows what lies underneath them , there could be rotten timbers to replace as well. You'll probably have to take the awning rails off and reseal them as well.
The front window needs attention too, the plastic covering seal is shrunk away and will need replacing. Possibly its been leaking , maybe thats why the varnish is flaky on the wooden trim inside . check for damp in that area too.
have a look in the repair section at the fixed it clubs, showing the damp repairs. It could be a very big job.
Only consider it if you are keen and confident diyers with plenty of time to spend doing it up .
Are you able to view it first ? if so take a damp meter and check how far the damp has spread along the walls.
personally , with a hubby who is not keen on any sort of diy, I wouldnt touch it with a bargepole.
Don't be deceived by how nice it looks in the photos, it could be stinking of rot , make sure you view before bidding, and ask to see the cooker, fridge ,water heater, pump and electrics all working. if they are not woking as they should be, it is going to be expensive to replace and repair things, thats if you can get the parts .
Ta for your advice :) we are not competent in diy and this is our first ever caravan so I think we will stay clear then thanks, I got carried away I think by how nice I looks :)
At least you asked for opinion's on it here 1st before going and getting it :)
This site is just great :)
We had an avondale as our 2nd 'van and it was great. It must have been the same years as that one as it looked so similar. Shame about the damp :(
Keep looking and ask for help and advice. It may not always be the answer you wished for but at least you won't waste money on a dump :)
Where else are you looking? We found our Avondale on Autotrader. I used ebay to find the right layout and give me names of 'vans to look out for and searched until i found the right one :)
don't touch it with a bargepole.damp is the caravan killer .there are some REAL bargains out there, don't burn a hole in your pocket be patient ..your dream caravan will appear eventually
That's a shame it looks a nice van, we bought a damp van and repaired it but it wasn't a quick job, that picture looks like if you started stripping it back it will go alot further than you think, and before you know it you could be repairing a whole side,as others have said if you are a good DIYer it could be a bargain, but thb I would steer clear. There's plenty of good vans out there just takes some time finding one, but you will eventually.
It's a nice van tho I like that little long window thing at the back it's nice.
