help settle a dsipute detween me and hubby. after we have come back from our 2 week break I have emptyed everything out of the van and cleaned it out and taken all food stuff out even tins and hoverd out the cupboards. now hubby says we only need to do this at the end of the season not after every break. I know were hopfully going away again at the august bank holiday but I didnt like the thout of tea bags and tins left in the caravan.
so how oftre do you do a compleat clean out after every trip or just for storage

It's nice to be important but its more important to be nice
We always leave tea bags, coffee, tins, sugar, salt, pepper, vinegar - that sort of thing in the van and some of it may over winter in the van as well, unless we run out at home.
Complete clean out and use by date check we do at the beginning of the season
That way we don't forget and have to buy more on site
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
I never leave any food in the van, even coffee and tea bags, as it's used so infrequently at the moment that stuff would go off and tea bags would go stale, but other than that everything else stays in all the time and it just gets a good clean out at the end of the season.

Clean fridge and cupboards for food every trip, but only take out tea bags, sugar etc at the end of the season as we are in the van every few weeks. Likewise, aquarolls, waste water and toilet cassette full clean end and start of seasons and just rinse outs at the end of most journeys.
I leave everything in the van, and it only gets a really good clean at beginning and end of season , because its kept in storage. Tins are okay, will keep for years, but Teabags do tend to taste funny when left a couple of weeks, i thought it might have been because they were in a tupperware container, they were only there about 2 weeks?. Coffee and sugar was fine though, will just take fresh teabags every time.
Basic unopened packets and tins, tea, coffee and sugar stay in the van, the fridge gets emptied and washed out at the end of each trip, along with any half packets of cerials or pickles, jams ect, but we do leave an unopened carton of long life milk in the fridge ready to make a cuppa when we arrive.
We always have enough tinned/dried foods in the cupboard to make our first meal on site on arrival, before we go out to buy a few days shopping from the local shops and supermarket, and we also keep a basic supply of disposables such as kitchen rolls, sandwich bags, foil, loo rolls in the caravan, along with a bottle of washing up liquid and a packet of sanitizing wipes for kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
We do tend to put the van 'to bed' for the winter from November until early March, and that is when we empty it completely, sort out the surplus to requirements gear and accumulated junk out, then pack all the contents into storage boxes and bring them indoors, not to be replaced back into the van until after its annual service and spring clean!

We bring everything back. Going out we load the van with inside stuff and outside stuff in the car. Coming home its the reverse and then just leave the outside stuff in the van in storage as we drop it off before we get home. As we pack the crates of inside stuff to put in the car we clean the cupboards.

We are away every couple of weeks, throughout the winter too. The caravan is on the drive so it's easy to get at. We leave everything ie tins, spaghetti, rice, tea coffee, sugar etc in the cupboards. I clean/wash, the bedding, fridge, bathroom, kitchen, floors and carpets after every trip. I think I emptied everything out and had a spring clean in ..... spring ! .
leave it all in till the yearly clear out but we just keep on top of it when we are using it tea bags in those nice little tubs from the chinese sugar in a jar then cereal etc comes out after every trip.
We caravan all year round come rain or shine, so I usually have a major cleanout once every few months checking what needs bringing out, tea coffee sugar tins stay in the van as we use ours as much as we can, because we are year round caravanners nothing goes out of date we use it up before it does.I always Hoover and clean tho after trip away so it's clean and ready for the next off :)
we do a major clearout in nov after the last holiday of the year, then in march clean it out top to bottem ready for the new season and go away late march early april, we take beeding out to wash it then when its washed it goes back down, tins never leave until empty along with drinks.
and we hover about every 3 days away and before we go home as the dog hair would take over.
I give mine a good clean up when we get home. We used to leave a certain amount of foodstuff in the 'van but now i take it all out and just fill a box from the cupboards at home to take with us. All the bedding is washed and aired and then put back for next time though i don't make the beds up until the week we are going away. I have seperate bedding for the 'van which is handy as i then can't forget to take it :) Same with washstuff and medicines and loo rolls. It's so nice to go away and its all still there when needed. At the end of the season i'll replace medicines with newer so that they don't go out of date.
I leave tea bags and coffee in there all the time, then just check whether I need to top up before I go away. They're both in airtight stainless steel containers and I haven't noticed that they go off.
Tins are left in there and I check the dates when I get home and, if anything's getting close, I take it indoors.
I tend to clean round before I leave a site and just leave hoovering until I'm at home.
I won this time and everythings out of the van even though were away again bank holiday weekend. had not thougt about going away that must fined somewere. we have agree i will orgaines inside if he cleans outside. so insides spotles and outside still needs washing
