Anybody had problems filling up at services? Something I am not used to as, I fill up before trip and never go more than 350 mile in one go. Like wise on return journey. Friend of mine with a large unit struggled to get in the usual pumps and went into the lorry fill up instead!
It's never a problem. Presumably you are using deisel if considering the lorry pump as they won't do petrol but you would need to be very high to justify it.
As above, I try to avoid it if possible due to the cost but when I have used them I have not had a problem. There are usually enough pumps to get a good approach without any tight turns.

Services about 5/10p a litre more, I would never fill up at one unless it was a Emg & I don't even pay for my diesel
Hi, same here only in emergency, and no problems.
didgisatman, I could do with few thousand litrs of diesel to see me throught the caravan touring season ,would be cheep holiday, second thoughts would probibly end up on more sites. sorry to hijack this post slightly.
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
I've never had a problem but generally try to avoid them on the grounds of cost.
most motorway junctions have a "normal" filling station within half a mile, kids like it because the money I save on fuel let's them fill up without me moaning ;)
I think you are referring to the task of doing it rather than the cost of doing it.
Most fuel stations are ok - you can get in and out easily dependant on the size of your outfit. However, on at least one occasion I have unhitched off the forecourt, filled up and then rehitched.
One of the cheapest I have ever found is still the Shell station on the A414 nr St Albans as you approach the M25 at Watford from the A1.
When on the m4 2 years ago I nearly got caught out. I pulled into the caravan parking area for lunch (lorry parking area). After lunch I went to fill up, but you could only access the lorry pumps with the nozzles too big for a car. I had a fraught journey to the next services which fortunately were only 20 miles further up the road. Now I always fill up first, it is easier to delay lunch rather than fuel.

My Company might have something to say when they see the bill.Plus My card only allows me to fill up £75 a day which just fills my tank from near empty.
Thanks for your replies, got 328 mile journey ahead on Thursday, so filled the disco to the brim and borrowed the old fella's jerry can, so if I don't top up on route I can top up on site. Hopefully eliminate filling up and fuel cost problems. Cheers

I once saw a book that listed the closest petrol station to each motorway junction in the UK, stupidly I didn't buy it and I've never seen it again. It would have probably paid for itself on my first fill-up.
Sorry to butt in but a quick question, if you park in a caravan/lorry area is it ok to use the lorry pump's?? Our Mondeo is fitted with a easy fuel (basically a lock that only opens when a standard diesel pump head is inserted, so as to stop you filling with petrol) Are the pump's much bigger for lorry's and even if there not are the station's ok with you using the lorry pump's?? Im only asking as our van is 26ft long and im not to keen on the idea of using the normal pump's with that sort of length. Cheer's.
The lorry pumps have bigger nozzles and the flow rate is massive.
You are likely to get more over yourself than in the tank.
Few years back i pulled up behind an escort van, I said to the driver he should not fill up at the HGV pump, He told to to f off he can fill up where he likes, I went and gave my fuel card to the cashier, When i came back his shoes and lower part of hos trousers were covered in diesel, I couldnt help laughing at him.
I can put 100+ litres in before you can put 30 into your car.
Dont risk it. Find a services where you can access the proper pumps from the caravan parking area, I have used the supermarkets at the cribbs causeway before.
Much cheaper. They can get quite busy but plenty of room with a caravan in tow.
