Yes we have changed all the halogens that are on for extended periods to these modern LEDS.
Realistically you will save 80% of the battery power used for lighting, so in the winter months it can have a real impact.
The older "glass-bead" type are no where near as "good" as these modern ones composed of blocks with a yellow centre.

Some find the cold white coloured ones too harsh and prefer the warm white, neither are as "soft" as halogen lights.
We have cold white for the reading and kitchen lights and the warm ones in the ambience lights of the lounge.
This aspect is very personal so buy one or two of each before deciding what suits your requirements, as they are not cheap.

Use the flat ones like those, and some otheres from this company:

http://www.ultraleds.com/

Bright white used in the reading lights, and warm white else where. Found the company very good and quick, and cheaper than Bedazzled.

I have orderd the capsule lamp replacements today, hoping that they workwell, in theory they should be ideal, 2watts = about 10 watts halogen, just check that they are DC as there are some that are 12vAC

Hi, I found these ones somewhat brighter

Bought this at another company.
I'm also looking for strips, anyone found better than these?

Changed mine to leds. Used a firm called Aten Lighting, they are in Melton Mowbray. The have a stand at most major shows, but do a good mail order service. Don't buy cheap leds- Aten only supply quality ones. I used warm in lounge and bedroom (more subdued light) and cool in kitchen and bathroom (brighter light)

I've been watching this thread as I work in theatre but am thinking about the lighting I have in my van and what I could change/upgrade/install it make it better.

I've also notice that B&Q now sell LED lighting "packs" for home use. I didn't have chance to ask on Sat (due to buying wood to rebuild the backend of my van (thread coming soon in Repairs!!)) but if they run on 12v DC then they could be ideal for our uses. Anyone know if they do?

Hi MrPete,

I would say be VERY careful with what you buy in B&Q, cause they usually have low-price LEDs for those who have little idea what they are buying. All I mean, is check the performance, the beam angle, and power of the LED you are about to buy. One of my friends just "popped in" the store to buy "the same" LEDs I have for third the price, but of course they hardly emitted any light...
If you want anything with real quality, I'd rather go for special stores. Check several online, the ones you found up here for instance. I personally liked LEDcentre, because I could bug them with questions all the time and always got a decent reply regardless of what they had in stock. Also, many stores simply lie about the performance of their stock, which I find disgusting...

I bought 10 from here they worked out at less the £2.50 each and are of extremely high quality note the strain relief collar on the pins I left one running at 27 volts on a bench power supply overnight to check out the voltage stabilisation circuit and it was fine they reach max lux at 8.5 volts and are the equivalent to a 10 watt halogen.
