next trip is going to be around 800 miles and I have seen several people bestow the virtues of wind deflectors and I get the general advice is to get the deflector as far back as possible.

Problem is we have a Citroen C5 hatch and the rear most roof mounting point is pretty far forward, anyone come across anything which can be fitted with suction cups or similar?

I would question their usufulness. Given the price I have seen advertised you would have to tow many miles to recoup the cost. Wouldn't a roofbox have the same effect and more useful?

well yes, they do seem pretty expensive, I was considering making one which would cost next to nothing ;)

but I can understand how it would be effective on an estate/people carrier but on a "3 box" car I'm really not so sure
