I know that many people have posted about Tyron Bands, but I wanted to come at it with a different angle, relating to modern rims & tyres.
Are Tyrons necessary? Even with modern H2 rims?
Are they necessary with new quality over spec’d tyres?
Has anyone had a blow out with new tyres? Or just older one’s?
I know reading through some older posts that some have had blow outs with Tyrons fitted, have come to a safe stop, but how do you know that this would not happen without them fitted?
I think (IMO) most people have them fitted for piece if mind, but I question if they are really necessary, especially with modern rims and quality tyres.
------------- Some days I am the statue - others the pigeon.
Ask the Police. They will fit them for a reason on their modern cars.

I was told by a caravan dealer that they have stopped fitting them because they are no longer necessary. They went as far as saying they do not recommend them. I have mentioned this before on here and I don't feel I have had conclusive evidence one way or the other. Some fit them 'just in case', others say that it has saved them in a sticky situation, but with no direct comparison with what it would have been like without - you can't really, I suppose. Every accident/blowout is slightly different, so no doubt the tyres would 'react' in a slightly different way. Probably those who have them, swear by them, and those who don't have them don't see them as being that useful. So I suppose you pay your money and takes your choice!
Now, I'm off on hols. tomorrow folks, while the discussion continues. Take care and will be back in three weeks.
Ref Traffic Police, re-christened Roads Policing Unit in Hampshire, where Tyron's are fitted, as they are at Longmoor military transport depot. But, as above, you pay your money and make your choice!
I have never had them, but I have had a great many blowouts and never had a control problem.
You usually have plenty of time to stop before the tyre comes off the rim. Just don't change direction suddenly, and brake gently, and there's time to stop before anything bad happens.
Of course, this is when it's more important than ever to have a good towcar weight advantage.
Insurance companies seem to consider that they are a useful safety tool. Caravan Guard offers a 5% insurance discount for customers who fit ‘Tyron bands’ to their tourer’s wheel hubs. I am also told that the C&CC offers a discount for Tyrons.

TüV: Tested and approved by German TüV (European equivalent of DOT) at Autobahn speeds (225 kph/140 mph)
at the end of the day its a personal choice as to how you deal with safety, and in caravanning there are many aspects to entertain the mind. Its a bit like insurance I suppose. You get insured and you are happy, then you think about it and then also take out Roadside recovery.

They say they have TüV approval if so then they have a number, by checking that number you can find out what the approval is for, Tyron don't tell you that number neither do they show the TüV badge of approval on their site. They also say that the Tyron is fitted to all UK police cars and we now know that that is not true so how many of their other statements are untrue?
Not long ago I would have fitted Tyrons but the more I read about them the less inclined I am to do so
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
If they are that good an idea and safety improvement why aren't caravan manufacturers fitting them by default to new caravans. It can't be a cost thing since they don't exactly cost a kings' ransome.
I fitted them to my 15 year old 1st van on the advice of a colleague but I'm loath to fit them to the new van since Bailey obviously didn't feel the need. Maybe I'll fit them when I change the van tyres in 2 or 3 years time?
