Going to pick the van up this morning from storage to bring it home for a wash, brush, clean and charge up ready for a trip. Seems everyone has decided to pick today to have work done on their houses and the two streets (on the corner of which we live) have no end of workmens vans outside. We are close to the main road junction as well so there are traffic lights to get through and the vans are parked just a couple of houses from the lights! So, cars queueing for the lights will be another obstacle. Hope no one is parked outside my house when we get back as that would prevent me getting the van into the street (narrow street you see).
Looks like being a slalom trip when we get back. Might have to abandon the caravan in the middle of the road whilst I go and search for all the van owners to ask them to move their vans. That will block the road up to the lights.
Really looking forward to this.......and if any driver asks......I go forwards not backwards and my rig is bigger than theirs.............better ask the wife to get out and sort it whilst I remain in control of the car....

Yes, Phil. I just go forwards too. Unless really pressed into action - at which point I am usually stressed too.
same here, thats why we are having a mover being fitted next week, less stress on the clutch and also the wife

They are really worth it Stuart. We've had them on our last two vans. Well worth the money IMHO.
My caravan is parked at home in a private courtyard round the back of the houses where the residents have garages, and residents on two streets facing away from here have rear access to their driveways.
However they don't go up their driveways. They leave the cars liberally strewn all over the back pavement and double parked on the corner where we get out on to the main estate road.
Going to be taking it to Wales in 3 weeks to put it on a site permanently. It's gonna be interesting getting out of here...
If the vans are parked so that you can't get through with your van - would a fire engine be able to gain access to the street...... have a similar problem caused by local school traffic in our cul-de-sac - at least that only lasts for 30 minutes or so twice a day plus their concerts and the like.

If anyone asks me to go backwards I argue but if pressed I tell them it will take about 20 minutes and that I will need their help manhandling the van back to a place of safety, and only then can I move the car backwards. It usually works. Alternatively just get in the van and brew up, they usually get fed up.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Amazing....God must smile on caravanners. Didn't have to stop at any roundabouts or lights coming back and when I pulled into the road all the workmens vans had gone. Parked up in the drive no worries. About half an hour later the vans came back....and yes...if we have a fire the Engine will have to wait its turn...Phew.....mind you have to take it out Friday morning..so fingers crossed...

ps Like the idea of brewing up if the bloke in the car will not reverse
