For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
I have a 1982 dutch van. The burners on mine were not burning well, with yellow flames. I unscrewed the whole things, which took some puzzling out at first as it was a sort of bayonet fitting.
Put the roundy bits to soak and degrease. cleaned out underneath and cleaned out the jets. I ordered some 'spacers' from a commpany - these look like round bits of cardboard, but are important if you want the gas to come through properly. cleaned and refitted the spacers and top bits and all works well now.
It may just need a good clean.
forgot to add - I have to hold in the gas knob for a while after lighting before the gas will stay lit on the hobs, and that is to warm the thermo-coupler. Then you can release and the burner will stay on.
When it comes to gas - best to get a professional to look at.
I would recommend however that if the caravan is new to you that you get a complete service, this would include a check of all the running gear, brakes etc as well as the gas. Will probably come in around £150 depending on where you go, but will give you peace of mind that the van is safe and road worthy.

Did I not read on here that a full service does not include gas related problems?
