Hi all,

we'll be arriving back from France about 9.30pm, and don't fancy the drive back up to Yorkshire at that time.

Does anyone know of a hotel in the Portsmouth area that has a car park big enough for our car & van?

Looking at Google Street View (what did I do before that work of genius?), and the Premier Inn looks ok, but not sure what else to search for!

Anyone else done the hotel thing in Pompey?

Cheers :)

Hi bigsteve,

We've stayed in the Premier Inn (there are two across the road from each other) whilst visiting family in Pompey. Although they have reasonably big carparks they are located next to a big retail area from memory. Personally I wouldn't feel happy leaving my caravan there overnight (although I know of nothing that would suggest it wouldn't be safe).

One thought, there is a CC club site - Rookesbury Park (near Hundred Acres Wood, Fareham) that's within easy reach of the Ferry ports, they have a 'Late Arrival's area'. That might be a better bet.

Hope you find somewhere suitable.

Regards,

Hi,

We  sailed from portsmouth a few years ago and stayed here http://www.sunnydalefarm.co.uk/ they have a late arrivals area and as long as they know when to expect you it is not a problems, they are well used to been used  as a stopover site, it is only about 20mins from the ferry port. There might even be some reviews on this site if you check.

Sandra.

Hiya,

If you wanted to be a little bit away from loads of people & retail places you could try the Hilton Hotel on the Eastern Road (just North of Pompey) at Farlington.  No idea about prices etc but if you wanted to ring and ask about facilities, it's 02392 219111.

Would it not be worth driving up the road a bit and get to a Motorway service area. I know they are not ideal but just for an overnight stop and you'll a bit further up the road and in the morning  out of the traffic of the town.

Hi, would only use motorway services as last resort, better the late night arrival area of the CC club site, and will not cost as much as service station sleep over, time I had to use one cost £15 and lorry's in and out at all times not much sleep, Due to delays on motorway, on one trip used CC site at Buxton on way to Lowestoft from Glasgow, and had not booked to stay on site, cost about £10 good nights sleep and had eletric hook up,up in morning and set off again no problems, the choice is yours hope you get something sorted.
