Hi, budget restraints mean what I have ,needs to be managed and not expensively added to! I am looking for confirmation of this set up. I have an existing 150w flexi solar panel (new)I fixed to van roof 2 months ago. This is connected via a 20 amp regulator to a 70 a/h leisure battery (new gradeC). I fitted a 15 amp inline fuse between the solar and the regulator. I also have a 100 a/h leisure battery (new gradeC). When I am off grid I take this battery in a box and connect it in parallel to the van battery fitting an inline 15 amp fuse between the positive terminals.I have recently acquired a 120w flex solar panel (s/h) and intend fitting it to the roof. I am confident the 4 solar wires will fit through the roof gland into the wardrobe. My thoughts now are to fit inline fuses to both solar positive wires (15amp) before using split connectors. And joining the panels in parallel. Then to fit a 30amp inline fuse before the regulator.
I realise the batteries ought to be the same but they are not and the second battery is only used for 12 weeks per year at rallies. I ought to have a mttp regulator but my existing one works well. I did consider series connection of the panels but I'm not concerned about part shadows.
Would be interested in constructive comments on the set up and if blocking diode s are really necessary.
Thanks 6040 Howard
