I'm pretty sure no one will have a definitive answer for you, as everyone on here tows their own van.
Good luck in your quest though.
Edit.
Just re thinking as not enough details in your question, are you meaning you taking your van or someone else?
More details required please.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Impossible question to answer with so little detail!
You need to consider your start point, your final destination, your journey duration/miles and whether that requires a journey break (an overnight ferry with cabin can be more convenient/economic than a night on a camp site!). There is no real saving on a cheap ferry crossing if you drive extra hundreds of miles to use it!
About the cheapest ferry crossing across channel tends to be Newhaven-Dieppe if purely on ticket price.
I've done countless calculations on channel crossings for many decades, looking at overall cost (road miles-fuel/time, food stops, ferry tickets, overnight stops etc.), and it's far more complicated than simply the cheapest ferry! Our plans always include convenience of ferry departure times and arrival times, to make our journey as comfortable and convenient as possible, and to tie in with good final destination arrival times. We plan to make our journey as easy and comfortable as possible and treat it as part of our holiday, rather than something to endure/tolerate just to reach our destination - it works! We arrive relaxed and in good spirits, ready to enjoy our holiday from day one! Others who've joined us but been less thoughtful in their own planning have taken a day or two to recover from their 'tortuous' journeys!
Not everything is down to saving the very last penny, it can be false economy! - A well planed trip even at a few pounds more can be the difference between enjoying your FULL holiday, or spending part of it recovering from a less than ideal outbound trip and then having a stressful return! We have made mistakes over our many trips, and have learnt from them, ill chosen ferry crossing times can really impact the ease and enjoyment of your journey!
As Monty says, it's a lot more than just a cheap (if there is such a thing now) ferry crossing, it depends on where you're starting from (if in UK) and where you want to end up in France.
We always did Dover to Calais as it was one of the cheaper options but once you add tolls in on the French side, it's not that cheap.
We have now come to the conclusion that our time is the most expensive commodity, so less time driving and more time on a campsite is what works for us.
A week now and we appear to be no further forward, I hope richdawn is okay.
Maybe they have already travelled.
