Would this be detrimental at all when towing?

Our cycle carrier fits on to the rear/boot of our zafira. Normally (when not towing) we carry 2 adult bikes and 1 kids bike but wondered whether the weight of them and the load (clothes/food etc) in the car may cause a problem when towing the van and whether this is safe. Had a look at previus posts but couldn't find anything to answer our question.

you might struggle with max rear axle weight, you would need to load up and go to an axle weight bridge and make sure your not over weight.

oh and becarful when turning, make sure the bikes wont hit the van if you need to turn tight.

i used to do it with my old saab but not tried it with new car.

it may also screw up your towbar limit and affect noseweight.

isnt the limit on a zafira around 75 kgs ?

Hi Kate   No problems  with your rear carrier set up I travel this way with 2 adult bikes  plus extras check out my profile pic  .couple of tips lock the bikes to the carrier ,   if driving without van but bikes on carrier  get a large white /red stripped warning board, Fiamma do one very cheap comp in spain .

While they are on, get to the weighbridge, complete with your normal back seat passengers and luggage, and weigh your rear axle.  Then add the noseweight of the caravan, and see if you are still legal.

There isn't much to play with, and I could well imagine this being too much.  Driving round with the bikes on won't really tell you anything.  You need the weights.
