I wonder of any of you wonderful people could shed any light on a curious spate of thefts at our caravan storage site ....
Over the Christmas/New Year period, all the caravans on our storage site with the 'older' style water heater (the type with the big square vent without a transit cover, rather than the newer ones with the rectangular transit cover on the vent - the type fitted to the older Bailey 'vans, amongst others) were tampered with. The water heater vents were removed (the screws were taken out to get them off - no damage), a plate inside was similarly removed, and the ignition unit taken. Nothing else was touched, and no 'damage' was done other than the removal of the heater ignition units!
We cannot begin to work out WHY the ignition units should be targetted - anybody shed any light?

The part that's been stolen is tiny! A couple of wires with the ignition unit on the end - I think it would have to be made of weapons-grade plutonium to be worth anything for scrap! My hubby knows scrap prices well (as part of his job) and he can't think what might be in there to make them worth going to all this trouble for.

Very odd, but I'm sure i've read somewhere of someone else having this happen, maybe on the caravan section, it was a few months back.

How many caravans were targeted? they obviously wanted the specific part, the thief might even have his own caravan at the storage site.

Are you sure they haven't taken the module?

ooo,
another one
seems these units are rather nickable at the moment, I might just replace the screws with anti tamper ones shortly.
edit, ok thats quite an old post, but still, reading it it seems to be an ongoing problem.

Scampi, im sure you dont want to say on forum, but if you email me timtheenchanteruk at hotmail dot com where you keep your van,
I know a few people who do repairs and/or have workshops on a large storage area in leeds I will mention in to keep an ear out for parts going cheap.

the burner module is a small piece but are normally quite expensive to buy, before we moved onto our storage yard a few people had some bits nicked, one had a battery, one a bottle of gas and the othe the wheel brace. so people will nick anything to save a fiver.
