I'm looking at second hand awnings for our first caravan. The couple that I'm looking at at the moment do not have any instructions with them. My husband thinks this will be a problem. Is he right???
The main one I'm looking at is a Eurovent (a Sancerre I think).
Hi.If you've never put up an awning before ,then yes you may encounter a few probs. If you have had experience though then awnings tend to be generaly the same to a certain degree. It can be a bit daunting at first when you're faced with a load of poles and the awning itself, but the good news is its like riding a bike.Once you've learned to do it you never forget.

We've never put one up before so I guess we would need instructions! Buying an awning seems like a minefield but we really can't afford a brand new one! Thanks for your advice.
We bought a second hand one with no instructions for our old van couple of years ago. We had fun trying to put it up on our slopey drive to try it before we went away. Had lots of bits left over!! Main good thing we did was to label all the bits before taking it down.
Over time we gradually learnt what all the 'extra' bits were for. Bargain for £50 well worth the mystery of all the bits and pieces.

? Mr PP has just gone and bought another business, holiday?...we should be so lucky!
I had a eurovent with my old caravan and was very pleased with it. (actually its still in the garage). I found it easy to put up. Practise with the frame at home and colour code it if neccessary.

Even a new one with insructions will baffle you at first. The old saying 'practice makes perfect' has never been more appropiate for awnings. If you have the room at home then have a good go there. There may something on youtube to show you the basics and the golden rule is when you thread the awning through the channel, always make sure that you have the'' inside out'' because otherwise when you pull it over the van the inside of the awning will be outside.

I have had 3 2nd hand awnings, all have either been position, number or colour coded by the previous owner, which helps once you have worked out their code. Our current awning has 'left front', 'right rear' etc. I presumed he had marked it up whilst looking towards the van, but no he had marked them looking with his back to the van .

We`ve never had any instructions with any of the awnings we`ve had, we always laid out the poles and figured out what went where then put the awning up, this was never on site though always in our garden.
I think erecting your first ever awning on site just adds to the pressure.Even our tiny awning for our freedom went up beautiful at home twice in a row but as soon as we tried it on site me and the wife wanted to kill each other much to the amusement of all the other campers lol
