With the weather (yuk) i am on the verge of cancelling Devon for 2 weeks and trying to get on the ferry to go to France....thats where my friend is going to La Croix du Viux Pont. (Nr Paris) I am in a right quandry what to do nothing in it price wise, although my parents wont be pleased as they have booked to go to Devon at the same time....every cloud has a silver lining (only joking) what would you do ??????????????
------------- wishing everyone,,,,what you would wish for yourselves x
It can rain in Paris.Keep to your original plans and try to enjoy your holiday despite the weather.Fun can be had between the showers. Also don't disappoint your mum and dad, they will be looking forward to sharing some time with you.
and we are due to go away on the 16th aug again for 10 nights i was thinking of the same but to the loire or there abouts. i have looked for a rally or an all inclusive with one of the clubs but its too far for the short time we have and also travelling from south wales. the cost of the ferry etc. i think it will be too much and too far. so just prey or hope for some better weather.
the people in tents this year from not only this country. i just wonder why they come here. one couple did ask me if this is what summer is like in the uk i said um well yes it is unpredictable. we were in france last year and it was lovely i keep looking at the forcast in different area even the netherlands has better weather than here.
The recent masses of wet atlantic air that have kept us drenched have in the main, just skirted Brittany and the Vendee and further south have faired much better.
The suggestion is that if you head south of the Loire there is more chance of a sunny holiday.
you must have faith, you was promised a bar-b- Que summer by the weather men, so please be patient, if all fails I would stick to Devon it still looks a nice place in the wet.
------------- "PACESETTERS" German Shepherd dog display team, we are out and about raising money for guide dogs.
France! We are off to La Croix du Vieux Pont in a fortnight and it is about the tenth time we have been. The Met Office is now predicting an unsettled August so leave the BBQ in the shed and go to the Buffalo Grill in Soissons instead!
No contest, France. I love parts of Devon, but forget it this year, things aint gonna improve, coupled with the rip off site charges for high season, head south, Loire and small pretty villages with municiple sites, you will know you have been on holiday.
When you go to La Croix du Vieux Pont do you do the dover - calais crossing? The site looks great. We are off to Cornwall next week! so this could well be an option for us next year. Just glad we have a caravan and we are not in a tent.
By the way lozzie if I were you I would go to France, I know we would if my son's passport hadn't run out!
Yep France (we off sunday for 2 weeks can't wait!!) We don't bother with uk in Aug any more had to many rubbish holidays with wind and rain, just doesn't feel like a holiday!
No contest. France every time. We live in a stunning country with lousy weather. Not a good mix for a holiday. We are off to the Limousin in a couple of weeks and the 10 day forecast at the moment is a sunny mid 70's every day. If we got that sort of weather in Devon I might be tempted.
Yes, I get some sleep during the day, then set off from the North West at around 9pm and arrive at Dover between 2 and 3am. We then get a ferry at around 4 or 5am and have breakfast during the crossing, arriving in Calais about an hour and a half later, but then gain an hour due to time difference. Then a leisurely drive to Vic-sur-Aisne, arriving well before lunch. The ferry crossing costs around £150 return.
France - we are going to La Croix du Vieux Pont as well (for 3 nights) before travelling down to Spain, we are staying mobile homes as it so much easier. I booked this holiday following a horrendous 2 weeks in Cornwall (rain, wind and norovirus) and I'll be booking to go to France again next year (already looking lol). Hope whatever you decide that you have a wonderful holiday.
